    For the first third of my life, I was very thin and I sank like a rock unless I was actively swimming. For the second two thirds, I bring enough body size that sinking hasn’t been an issue.

    Dear Newbie: Thanks for your contact, we have looked into this issue and want to assure you that every necessary measure will be taken to try to not have this happen to you in the future.     As we are West Coasters, we have been on many many Alaska Cruises. Each cruise is different, but many trips have been "shrinkage" cold during most days and evenings.

    Alaska balcony requirement.... NO Plenty of space above to see the sites. You can't normally sit on your balcony for long during the day or evenings. Ships have great locations for viewing both inside and out. The excursions are where it's at in Alaska. Fjord/Glacier is only part of one day and usually very cold. Save the cash, do more on land.

    Crowds- That's what the diamond lounge is for. Practice your eye roll and disgusted look prior to boarding to deal with unruly parents. Children head to certain locations on these ships, stay away from those locations and you will be fine. (Yes, this may mean you won't see the sun other than in port)
