Looking at the crowded beaches today, you do wonder how the infamous R rate is going to look in a few days’ time.  And the impact on the NHS.  I see one seaside hospital has already had to close to new admissions.

    This does not look good.

Apparently that hospital regularly closes locals were saying - fake news??

A friend of mine choose a beach she knew well (in Kent) and she was the only one in her ‘bit’ not everyone is being an idiot. It looked deserted in her photos!

Round my way most people seem to be staying at home, I can tell by all the parked cars outside of houses!

It's funny isn't it, the small things we used to take for granted? I love a nice card with a verse but you have to look hard for them now. Mum didn't care about the front of the card. It could have said anything on it and she wouldn't have noticed. She went straight to the verse inside. I had to get Jake's birthday  card online as our good card shops are a bus ride away. I'm sure the sun will be back for you, it's forecast to be a good week.

My Nan used to say “lovely words” and I thought oh I didn’t notice that 😂 I’ve ordered some online (June and July very busy for me) but I didn’t see one I liked for my Mum. So I got that today - and an engagement one for our son and fiancée 😀

I really wanna go to Bridlington. Just can’t find out if the toilets are open.

opted to work bank holiday for some extra pennies instead. Keeps me sat at home instead but it’s always quiet and boring in a morning. Just hoping the calls are sales and not like yesterday’s.

hopefully will go to the valley country park that’s about 20 mins away but hubby might take the girls before I have finished work cos they get bored.

decided to have a look at what my Florida holiday would be next year and the price has gone up £2k. Wouldn’t dare book anyway until everything has stopped.

what are your plans for this sunny bank holiday?

Toilets are a worry for me too! My local council’s website says the toilets are open at the country parks. Hubby off Wednesday and it’s my day off too so we may go to a country park that’s about 20 minutes drive away.

I’ve just killed two birds with one stone by walking to Dobbies to get some cards. Little card shops aren’t open and I can’t face queuing at a supermarket just for a card and they’re not always very nice  anyway.

First time I’ve braved Dobbies since it opened - it’s about a 20 minute walk uphill most of the way there. So got my cards and got my exercise. Not very busy at all.

Come home intending to sit in the garden and the sun’s gone in! Sure it will be out soon. Looks like it’s going to be a hot one!

If only.  But this is more of a health issue than a political issue, because it will inevitably water down the health messages, which were already vague, and encourage people to travel and visit wherever and whoever they like.

That will spread the virus, which so far has only infected 10% of the population according to one of the government advisors this morning, and cause serious problems for the NHS again.

That in turn will delay any return to cruising, so it’s all very relevant to a cruise forum like this.

Yes I know politics effects everything but this thread is more about our day to day trials and triumphs and quite frankly everywhere I look at the moment I’m seeing that man’s name!

Probably correct, all leads to more cancellations at some point, or very least itinerary change in the interim.

Looking internationally, in relation to Spain, my understanding is that the Spanish authorities have apparently allowed for the resumption of tourism in July, although I can't find any articles that relate specifically to cruise ships.

This could lead to the strange scenario when British tourists (land / ships) can travel outwardly freely, but be restricted inwards.

This could be unlike cruise lines operating for more European guests, possibly more MSC or Costa, where governments behave differently.  Possibly guests of different nationalities on the same ship being treated differently repatriating?

The French meanwhile have gone for "retaliatory" quarantine; this was the phrase I saw.  So, even if that was positive for Spain therefore, if Portugal don't follow suit, then it rules out the usual week route to ports like Bilbao, La Rochelle, Lisbon / similar.

I understand the quirks with the Norwegian Town Councils, but the Nordic countries are looking to go in step from 24th August.  That rules out the other usual week long cruise ship route round the fjords.  Possibly also the Baltic route if Denmark follow suit.

The Northern European circuit generally involved Zeebrugge - do like the stop there, but Belgium appears to be even worse hit than ourselves if some figures are read across, considering the much smaller population.

So, unless it's UK / Ireland, what is the route for a "baby steps," one ship at a time that may work in August beyond possibly Amsterdam (correction: bus from IJmuiden) and Guernsey? At the moment I don't see the possibility - hence more cancellations more than likely?

When announced, remains to be seen.

    Good but sad summary there.

Hi Sue, hopefully they will start to lift the restrictions re who can see people and who can't. The rules at the minute seem a bit weird and aren't making too much sense. Cold and breezy here in Stoke on Trent too. I think the beautiful sunny weather has spoiled us all, but I think it will be back tomorrow and my mood tends to lift when the sun comes out.

Yes people are getting very fed up now and friends have started saying they are meeting one family member at a time in their gardens where they have a side entrance. I have a side entrance to my garden but I don’t like to say to my son as not sure what his partner would think. Plus our grandson is too young to understand so would probably run to me!

I’m looking forward to the sunshine promised for tomorrow too. Two things guaranteed to raise my mood, sunshine and the sea 😁

I think the increase in people out and about and in the park may have put him off. The little moorhen family is gorgeous - 5 lovely large babies (not sure what you call a young moorhen) and 2 proud parents. Really pleased as I was worried they would be Heron food by now  😉

Well once upon a time we would have been sailing on Ventura today on her way down BOB for the half term break. It was blowing a gale here yesterday and grim today so in some ways I am glad we are on dry land !!

Don’t wish to upset you Presto but it’s quite warm in Kent though breezy. Was very sunny but clouded over now.

This is the first time I’ve posted, although I’ve been following the thread and feel as if I know many of you already. I was booked on Ventura sailing 17th March. I received a cancellation invoice dated 25th March and have today received a cheque for the full amount of the cruise. I’m relieved as I was gearing up to go into battle next Tuesday emoji16.png.

    Message for P&O Sue.

The prices for the upgrade on your Sept 2021 will be back dated to the price it was when you made the original booking. If you booked when the cruise was first released that would be the cabin price now. We all know prices are at there lowest when the cruises are first go on sale. Worth a call to P&O to check.

Yes I did think this was the case. I didn’t book on launch but sure the prices have gone up since I booked.

  12. I’m thinking of putting my deposit for my October cruise towards upgrading my cabin for a cruise I’ve got booked for September 2021 😊 Hubby had a fit when I told him the price but if you added the two cruises together it was still cheaper and we were happy to pay for the two cruises at the time. I think I’ve convinced him 😄

Although not everyone who has been chasing has been successful yet (although it seems most have), the response you have had (and some others have had) confirms beyond any doubt that there is an escalation process. My guess is that it depends on whoever deals with the query as to whether or not you get escalated. For what it’s worth, it was Helen Lamb that I contacted and I had a rapid response and the refunds were then processed within a matter of days, so fingers crossed your ridiculously long wait could at last be nearing an end. As I say, fingers crossed!

I didn’t aggressively chase them and I’ve got my refund this weekend like many others. I made two brief phone calls after the 45 days but they wouldn’t have known I was chasing as both people I spoke to just said if I’d done the online form it was being done! They did not take any details from me so they wouldn’t have known I was chasing.

    Could be a while yet...

Michelle Just had an email from Helen Lamb saying we have been escalated and we are being processed, but no date...

They are saying that we asked for the 2 refunds to be combined, we didn't... But they are implying its our fault...

It seems they are working on the later date where the 60 days is up at the end of the month...

    Liberty takers...

    Andy

Hmm Andy not great. At least you know someone is on the case.
