  1. Well I actually did some chasing . I messaged them on Facebook on Saturday giving the cruise number and my peninsular number.

Today I decided to phone them as they hadn’t replied, but I had a reply on the messenger this morning. Unfortunately all it said was they wanted all my details , so I’ve replied with that. (I thought my peninsular number would have given them all my information!)

My cruise number was B008 and I filled out the online form for full refund on 16th March. As my cruise was for 10th April it wouldn’t be on my personaliser now anyway.

There was a method in my madness. We need to look forward to our next adventure and decided that we need to sort our what we are spending that FCC on. May be a year before we use it but half the fun is in the planning ! Thanks everyone for joining in … back to the thread now ….. so excited.:classic_biggrin:

PS May watch Death in Paradise again just to get my fix 😉

I love the planning, it’s half the fun for me, the cruise I should be going on in October for the hubby’s birthday has been booked for nearly two years 😢

We'll keep sending him back then. He / she landed on a house opposite us last week --- we were gob smacked and Mr Presto was sent out to frighten him off! We chased him around the lake today … grrrrr

PS Sorry everyone, this is not a cruise issue but as we are talking about a lake it at least had water in it !

Presto, I’m shocked you are annoyed with the heron, why?

  4. I’ve seen some pictures on Facebook of the ships off Weymouth - jealous!

We live about a 50 minute drive from Dover, I would love to go and look at the ships docked there (Arcadia, Oceana and Aurora) but of course am staying home.

Our cruise was in the most recent batch cancelled by P and O. I used the online form to apply for a full refund the following day. However, I have not received an email of confirmation of this. The form states I would probably receive an incorrect cancellation email. But I have received nothing at all. No confirmation at all.

Is this the experience of others? Or has my refund request mysteriously "got lost" in their system?

I found my cancellation email by accident because it went in my junk email! I got two - one cancellation (saying a cancellation charge) and another saying ignore that no cancellation charge! Having said that still no actual refund yet

Once you start selecting a particular cabin type, and start the booking process you then normally see the two fare types.

Yes it would be confusing if you were new to P&O! They automatically select your cabin then you have to click on ‘I want to choose my cabin’

I am rather enjoying all this gnashing of teeth and sabre rattling from everyone waiting for a refund. Glad I decided early to leave the money with P&O and put it against a future cruise, before the prices went up, although I think Iona winter cruises are about the same as they were before the pandemic hit.

Unfortunately I was in the unusual position for me of having two more cruises booked already so refund seemed the easiest option at the time.

One of the three most common lies in the world.

When I worked in a bank branch it used to be ‘the manager is in a meeting at the moment can I help’ Nearly always was something very trivial that I didn’t need to bother the manager about 😁

A lot of it depends on the broadband connection at home. A lot of people with cheap broadband deals for home use will have been perfectly happy with slow download and upload speeds in the past (and probably not even noticed) but will now find that they are insufficient for the requirements of business systems therefore making it difficult to work from home.

The opposite is also true, whereby a good broadband connection allied to good remote access facilities can make working from home just as viable as being in the office in a lot of cases.

I mostly worked from home for a global financial institution for over 6 years with few problems after we upgraded to the top broadband package from our service provider. We have become so used to it that if we use the WiFi at my in-laws (a standard connection from a well known satellite TV company) the drop in speed and quality of connection is really noticeable. I once had to use their WiFi for work (as our local telephone exchange was down for a day) and it was a frustrating day to say the least!

I must admit I do hope my broadband copes as I have my work Pc  and work phone plugged into my router!

Believe me though our system is so clunky it often crashes when I’m in the office!

  10. I haven’t bothered to clog up the phone lines as having been in customer service positions over the years I know how frustrating the job can be. I didn’t see the point in phoning up before the 45 days is up because that stops them working on the refunds. I’ve now gone past the 45 days but won’t phone up yet as I just can’t face the wait. Next week maybe...

On the subject of working from home , believe me it does slow things down. It took two weeks for my employer (part of NHS) to set me up with my equipment and even then the IT has never been great. Now with more and more people signing onto our system it keeps crashing. My colleague yesterday took over an hour to get signed on! I start at 8am most days and always sign on about 20 minutes early and have been ok so far. Today I start at 1pm so I’m dreading it, ( seems later you sign on less chance you have!) no doubt I’ll start trying at 12.30 🙄

  11. I was thinking about Centre Parcs earlier - but they’d have problems there with the swimming pools and spa areas! Social distancing wouldn’t work there!

I’d do a week with no ports, love a sea day. It’s not just a floating hotel, I just love watching the sea. I could sit and watch it for hours.

Our cancelled cruise in April was a two nighter to Zeebrugge - I priced up two nights to Bruges on Railbookers, £10 each more and it was only B&B!

Just spoke to a rep at P&O. Apparently despite me submitting a form for a full refund on the 17th March, my account was loaded with a FCC! Fuming! So the rep delved deeper and could then see that the form I submitted on the 17th was received by the cancellation department on 24th (that makes sense because that's when I received the cancellation invoice). The rep also put me on hold to contact the finance department for confirmation that it was in hand - the cynic in me thinks I could have just been put on hold, but I give them the benefit of doubt.

Therefore, wait for it, yes you guessed correctly, the 45 day clock didn't start ticking until 24th March! So another 7 days has been added to the timescale. Luckily no mention of 60 days! So let the waiting game begin again.

That’s  awful! Good thing you phoned.

  13. This thread is getting quite depressing but I have to keep reading to see if anyone had got a refund yet!

I accepted the 45 days but I’m getting nervous now! I definitely will be moving my October cruise when they ask for final payment, as someone else said I can’t go through this again!

I was one of the first batch told 45 days, am I right it’s now 60? I originally thought mine was 45 but the later ones were 60 but now it seems everyone is getting 60? I stupidly thought mine would still be 45 . I’m checking my account about 3 times a day!!

Thank you Sue. I've certainly never had a birthday like it.

    Congratulations on your new job.

I don't understand why a doctor can't buy his own blood pressure monitor and check his own. That's what I have to do. It works nearly the same as wearing one for 24- 48 hours. I just take it at different times during the day and keep a note of the readings until the the doctor rings me.

    Avril

    Thank you 😊

Re the doctor, that’s what my manager said when I told her!
