  1. I know the word "party" is very subjective but on the last 2 cruises-NS and Oosterdam in the past year the Rolling Stone Rock room and BB Kings dance floors were very busy. I can party as hard as I want to on a HAL ship and we don't want to do much after 11PM anyway and we are way past bragging about how much we threw up the night before-lol !
  2. At least we won't have to worry about running into a previous poster on our next HA cruise-lol !
  3. We just booked a Panama canal sunfarer for next year while we were on Oosterdam a couple weeks ago-I am surprised a cruise line would stop at a port if there is any threat of unrest.
  4. No-just the Rolling Stone Room band and trivia was played in the Billboard on board room. This band was so good we didn't even miss BB Kings.
  5. That was the only 2 options on our cruise-I will say that Canaletto is better now than it was when we first tried it on Eurodam in 2013.
  6. I agree about the tubs-the shower on NS was awesome and I'm too tall for a tub anyway.
  7. We had a VA on deck 8-bathtub/shower and the shower curtain did not bother me plus the water temperature did not fluctuate.
  8. This band consisted of 2 female vocalists, 1 male vocalist, lead guitar, bass guitar, drummer and keyboard player-they were the best band of any we have heard in our 4 cruises. They played pretty much anything but I would have to say mostly 70s, 80s and some newer stuff-the dance floor was busy every time we were there. Also DJ Valentino played a good mix of music at the sea-view pool and in the RS room and he will take requests. There were also some piano players but we really didn't listen to them. Hope this band is still there when you go.
  9. We did a guided tour of Florence that included the museum-mainly Michaelangelo and Da Vinci and after lunch the Statue of David-glad we were on a tour because there is just so much to see and there is no way you can see everything in one day. The statue of David is a must-see and we were able to get close enough for some great pics. We did the ruins of Pompeii in Naples and again glad it was guided because Pompeii is huge. Did the HOHO bus in Rome- it was easy but again you only have time to see the highlights-we got some good pics of Trevi, the Pantheon, the Colosseum is awesome and I liked Circus Maximus imagining the chariot races. It would have been overwhelming if we had not been on a guided tour so glad we did that since it was our first time. No food tours but since I am a beer drinker I was pleasantly surprised how good the beers were.
  10. Hello, I will be brief-this was our 4th different HAL ship and 1st Med cruise-12 days from Barcelona to Trieste. My GF's family is Italian so she has always wanted to visit Italy and it was well worth it. Overall a great experience and another great ship-something keeps bringing us back to HAL. I will mention that the Rolling Stone Room band was the best we have seen and Carlos the entertainment host was the most engaging we have been around. I will be glad to answer any questions if you have any and I appreciate the info we have gotten here on CC-thanks again.
  11. When we were on NS last Christmas I got the small lighted tree from the HAL website-it was a good size and we were able to bring it home.
  12. Thanks-I feel better about not having to cram Venice in-would much rather experience a local Italian place.
  13. I like that idea especially since it will be new to us-thanks.
  14. Hello again, We are going on our first Med cruise next week (4 of us ) on Oosterdam-are the stateroom walls magnetic ? I bought some wall hangers after seeing this tip on CC-also we will be ending the cruise in Trieste and overnight there-we were disappointed to see how far from Venice it is and wondered if it's worth trying to go there since we don't arrive until 1PM-any suggestions are welcome-thanks again !
  15. I still don't get it-we have been given a price-drop without rebooking so why can't we get a new promo-I understand the conditions from the original booking but I would be more likely to be a repeat customer if new offers applied to us also.
  16. We were just told the OBC is for new bookings-it's pretty lame to penalize people with existing bookings especially since we are past final payment.
  17. Step by step instructions- 1-Buy Bon Voyage package 2-Enter stateroom and turn on TV to safety video 3-Drink bottle of champaign 4-Go to muster drill station and get checked off before you forget where it is 😁
  18. I can only speak about Carribbean itineraries-we did a spring break on Eurodam and a 12 day holiday on NS in Jan. There were plenty of kids and they pretty much owned the pools all day-even the sea view pool. Didn't bother us since we have kids but I could tell some people were not happy especially when the cannonballs started. One night in the Rolling Stone Rock Room a group of teens took over the dance floor-it was fun to watch.
  19. Enjoying your narrative especially since we were on NS in Jan-loved the ship and crew and BB Kings were awesome. Also enjoyed Rolling Stone Room even though it was a bit loud. If you run into Jamela in Rolling Stone or Emry at Ocean Bar tell them Robert the beer drinker said hi- cheers !
  20. We were on NS on 12/27-1/7 in the Caribbean-there were lots of decorations and a few of the ports had decorations. Not sure which ships have the big screen in the pool area but we had a big NY countdown party with champaign and snacks-it was fun I thought. I was a little surprised how many kids were on this cruise since it was 12 days but we had no issues. I would recommend getting a thermal suite pass if you are going to a warm weather destination because every oudoor pool was full and even the sea view pool had tons of kids jumping in-we used the thermal suite every day and there were never more than 5 at a time and my GF didn't have to wait on a ceramic lounger. If you can vary your dining times at Dive-in and Lido you can avoid the long lines-I know you will enjoy HAL.
  21. Thanks for the replies-we have a hotel booked and will try to blend in !
  22. Saw a recent article about Barcelona residents complaining about too many tourists especially from cruise ships-we are on Oosterdam in Sept. for our first Med cruise. Has anyone encountered any animosity from locals and are there any suggestions while we are there-we are getting into Barcelona a day early to get acclimated-thanks for any thoughts.
  23. We pre-order the Bon Voyage champaign-when we get in our room we open the champaign and watch the muster drill video-after we empty the bottle we go to our station to get checked off and prepare for sail away-it's a great start to the cruise !
  24. It's been a few years but when we were on Eurodam the buckets were 5 16oz.
