Just watched the Carnival something pull out while I was having dinner.  The ship is huge and I believe it’s their newest ship.

Hey @PistolPete13.  I am enjoying your reports, as usual.  The Carnival ship was the Carnival Celebration.   Her maiden voyage was this past November 6.  So, she is, as you thought, the newest ship in the fleet.  She is also the largest, at approximately 183K Gross Register Tons.  By comparison, the Getaway is around 145K GRTs.

Enjoy the rest of your trip.  And if you go to Maho Beach tomorrow, don't forget to duck.

  2. Looking forward to your reports @PistolPete13

Nancy and I finished up 17 days onboard last Saturday. My one piece of advice to you is to make sure you pull or push your door shut all the way until it clicks. Our door needed a little extra force to close, and one night we did not pull it all the way, and we ended up with a highly inebriated passenger standing in our bedroom at 4:50AM.

    Have a great time.

We made it to GSC today! No problems. Came over on the first tender and going back to the ship around 2:20. Lovely weather, beautiful sand, free drinks, buffet was passable. The sun is brutal so bring plenty of sunscreen. If you stay still in the water you'll see some fish. Not crowded at all - we didn't have trouble even getting chairs in the shade. The Zipline was pretty impressive looking but we didn't try it. Saw the Wonder of the Seas next door at Coco Cay plus a smaller Royal Caribbean ship I couldn't identify. They have a hot air balloon over there!

Props to the skinny blond girl in the hula hoop contest who could have kept going forever and they had to cut her off - she was amazing.

Sorry if this is a bit muddled, I've been swimming all day and I've never been this tired *ever*.  Note if you have a cane or mobility issues that loose sand is hard to walk in. We saw some other folks with canes that had end caps made for soft surfaces, with the four rubber pieces instead of just one - that looked like it would work better than my husband's basic cane.

Glad you were able to make it to GSC and that you enjoyed it so much. That smaller RC ship, by the way, is the Freedom of the Seas, maiden voyage in 2006.

Does anyone who the Captain & Staff Captain are?

    Tom

Go to the roll call for the January 20 cruise. On post 417, @JIMESOPUSposted pictures of the senior officer board. The Captain is Konstantinos Gkokas and the Staff Captain is Luksa Stanisic (spelling may be slightly off, the pictures got a little blurry when I tried to zoom in).

    Cruise director on Getaway? 🚢
    Activities staff folks? 🕺💃🏽🪩

Those guys are key to my cruise experience with dancing opportunities and theme parties! Going back onboard soooooooon! Like 2 days.

The Cruise Director is Alvin Oliva, just back from vacation. Don’t know about the rest of his team. We board the day you disembark.

From the Getaway day one Freestyle Daily posted on page six, I just noticed that there is a late night snack from 11 pm to 1 am. Looks like they changed the time.

I think it used to be from approx. 9:30 until 11 or 11:30.

Unfortunately I think that late night snack was only because it was New Year’s Eve. It was gone from the schedule by the next night.

No excursion tomorrow, guess we'll have are walking shoes.

Here is something that has never happen before, our excursion today was never discounted, latitudes perk. Inquiring at the desk tonight they said we had to ask for it, never had to before?

That’s very interesting because we have to ask for it every time. Never gets applied automatically, whether we book online, via the app, via the kiosk, etc.

Thank You for sharing.  I am curious as to the protocol.

Were you under any mask restrictions when released from the 5-day isolation?

Were you tested at the end of the 5-day isolation?

If you had been tested positive, would you have been isolated another 5-days?

    THANKS for any insight.

I was kind of surprised when we were released by the infectious disease officer that there was no discussion of restrictions of any kind. My wife and I did wear masks for the rest of the cruise, which was only about 18 hours.

Our isolation officially ended Monday afternoon. We had been tested Sunday afternoon and again Monday morning - both negative.

If we had tested positive either time, I had already been assured we would be disembarking the ship Tuesday morning in NY. Perhaps with more restrictions than we had, which was none.
