@cruiservictor OMG I felt so sorry for you at that time!!! As we were getting off we saw the THRONGS of people like you waiting to board & DW said to me, "You think WE'VE got it bad, imagine those poor people who had to wait for hours also!!!"

What time did you get to the pier that day?  Did NCL at least warn you via email/phone/whatever that we were delayed coming back?

We had been informed a few days before that the arrival would be delayed. We live just north of NY City, so we were lucky that we could just stay home and reschedule our car service pickup. My recollection is that we arrived at the pier around 6PM. We expected the Breakaway to be there already because we had not heard yet about those last minute emergencies you described.

Once we got going it was a great trip. Here we are with Chief Engineer Zoran, Staff Captain Viktor, Captain Matko and Hotel Director (now GM) Vuk.

Agreed.  As an example we were on Breakaway years ago & got delayed THRICE coming back from the Caribbean.  Once was to come in closer to shore so that a pax could be airlifted off the ship, a second time to assist other ships in a 'man overboard' incident & the final was a stop in Staten Island so several pax could be ambulanced to a local hospital.  As a result we missed the tide & had to wait off the Verrazano for slack condition.  We didn't dock till 9PM; over 12 hours late!  People were NOT happy.

My wife and I were on pier 88 waiting for you to arrive. It was the repo cruise to NOLA. We started boarding at midnight, had the muster drill at 2:30AM and eventually departed at about 6:30AM.

Just looked it up. It was October 27, 2018.

On our last cruise in January we noticed that there was no late night buffet on the Encore. Just curious if that was just a one off or did NCL cut something else out? We liked it because it was nice to go there after a late show to have a quick snack and chat before turning in for the night. We did go to the Local, but the buffet was just more convenient.

The late night snack hours of 9:30 to 11:30 in the Garden Cafe were eliminated a few months ago as one of the many cutbacks. Many of us, like you,  used to like stopping up there for a quick snack at the end of the day.  No more, unfortunately.

For Deepak fans, today was his last day on the ship. He will be on a well deserved vacation for a few months in India.

Igor Futivic moves from Food and Beverage director to General Manager

Mirko Mercida moves from Assistant General Manager to Food and Beverage director

There is someone coming back from vacation to assume the Asst GM slot.

Regarding Deepak, do you mean his last day on the ship until he comes back from vacation, or really his last day on the ship?  ie he’s moving to another ship or another company.

Just watched the Carnival something pull out while I was having dinner.  The ship is huge and I believe it’s their newest ship.

Hey @PistolPete13.  I am enjoying your reports, as usual.  The Carnival ship was the Carnival Celebration.   Her maiden voyage was this past November 6.  So, she is, as you thought, the newest ship in the fleet.  She is also the largest, at approximately 183K Gross Register Tons.  By comparison, the Getaway is around 145K GRTs.

Enjoy the rest of your trip.  And if you go to Maho Beach tomorrow, don't forget to duck.

  6. Looking forward to your reports @PistolPete13

Nancy and I finished up 17 days onboard last Saturday. My one piece of advice to you is to make sure you pull or push your door shut all the way until it clicks. Our door needed a little extra force to close, and one night we did not pull it all the way, and we ended up with a highly inebriated passenger standing in our bedroom at 4:50AM.

    Have a great time.

We made it to GSC today! No problems. Came over on the first tender and going back to the ship around 2:20. Lovely weather, beautiful sand, free drinks, buffet was passable. The sun is brutal so bring plenty of sunscreen. If you stay still in the water you'll see some fish. Not crowded at all - we didn't have trouble even getting chairs in the shade. The Zipline was pretty impressive looking but we didn't try it. Saw the Wonder of the Seas next door at Coco Cay plus a smaller Royal Caribbean ship I couldn't identify. They have a hot air balloon over there!

Props to the skinny blond girl in the hula hoop contest who could have kept going forever and they had to cut her off - she was amazing.

Sorry if this is a bit muddled, I've been swimming all day and I've never been this tired *ever*.  Note if you have a cane or mobility issues that loose sand is hard to walk in. We saw some other folks with canes that had end caps made for soft surfaces, with the four rubber pieces instead of just one - that looked like it would work better than my husband's basic cane.

Glad you were able to make it to GSC and that you enjoyed it so much. That smaller RC ship, by the way, is the Freedom of the Seas, maiden voyage in 2006.

Does anyone who the Captain & Staff Captain are?

    Tom

Go to the roll call for the January 20 cruise. On post 417, @JIMESOPUSposted pictures of the senior officer board. The Captain is Konstantinos Gkokas and the Staff Captain is Luksa Stanisic (spelling may be slightly off, the pictures got a little blurry when I tried to zoom in).

    Cruise director on Getaway? 🚢
    Activities staff folks? 🕺💃🏽🪩

Those guys are key to my cruise experience with dancing opportunities and theme parties! Going back onboard soooooooon! Like 2 days.

The Cruise Director is Alvin Oliva, just back from vacation. Don’t know about the rest of his team. We board the day you disembark.

From the Getaway day one Freestyle Daily posted on page six, I just noticed that there is a late night snack from 11 pm to 1 am. Looks like they changed the time.

I think it used to be from approx. 9:30 until 11 or 11:30.

Unfortunately I think that late night snack was only because it was New Year’s Eve. It was gone from the schedule by the next night.
