Port to Acropolis

Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to get from the port to the Acropolis? We do not want to book a driver as we did that on our prior trip to Athens. We have scheduled a private tour guide of the Acropolis and need to meet her at 9:30am. Would the HOHO bus work?

The best way is just to take a taxi. From Piraeus port to the Acropolis should be about 20-25 euros and you can fit up to four in a taxi (maybe not too comfortably, as Athens taxis are small -- but for the 20 minute ride it should be fine.)

Alternatively,Taxi to Piraeus Train Station (3-4 euros) and then from take the line 1 train (green line) from Piraeus to Omonia, and then from omonia metro line 2 (red line) to Akropolis. From there it is 5-10 min walk to Acropolis hill and 3-4 to Acropolismuseum

Just get a taxi in port. Traffic can be bad in morning so give lots of time.

Lots of options including local bus (from right across the street in front of the port) to the Pireaus station. or....we actually love to walk from the port to the train station (we love to take long walks). Using the Green Line into Athens one can change to a subway line (to get you to the Acropolis station) or just enjoy another long walk from Omonia or Monastiraki (there is a great flea market on Sundays near this station).

There is also the X80 bus that can get you from near the port into Athens. Taxis are an OK option, but do cost more and you run the risk of getting hung-up in heavy traffic.

And another option is to use the Hop on Hop Off buses that load right outside the port. We find these buses a bit pricey (since we prefer to walk rather then ride buses around town), but its a good option for those who want to see different parts of Athens without having to take longer walks.

We were the first people of Rhapsody of the Seas this past August. Yeah, it was hot. As soon as we walked away from the ship, in the ship yard, there was a city bus parked there that took us to within a five minute walk of the Acropolis. Cost was a big $4.00 Euros total. Got to the Acropolis just as it was opening. Must have been 8:30 am. Yes, just a few tourists, heaven. By the time we were leaving, it was dangerously overcrowded and that was at 11 am. Then we walked the Plakka, did lunch and made our way to the subway and took it back to Pireaus and then took a city bus back to the port entrance. Very easy. Granted we knew a little bit about what we were doing as this was our fourth trip to the Acropolis and every time we see it, there is something being repaired so we have a whole selection of different photos as the years past.

This reminds me of a comment by a lady we overheard at dinner in Athens.

"These Greeks are just SO lazy and incompetent. This stupid temple still isn't finished and we've been here 15 years ago. And i bet it still isnt in compliance with the Americans with disabilities act. And why the hell didn't they build it by the beach . It would be so much nicer there " Wow!!! :')
