Pre-Paid Cheers and no show

 Share

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are supposed to cruise in 4 weeks with my family. We have pre-purchased Cheers and gratuities. My husband will not be going on the cruise. If he is a no show, will I get his Cheers and gratuities refunded or should I just cancel them outright? I would still like Cheers for myself if possible. I pre-paid using gift cards so I assume the gift cards will be refunded.

Easiest would be to cancel cheers now and buy for yourself on board. If you cancel it now, you should get the gift card refund in the mail in time to use it on board to buy cheers, though you will be cutting it close.

If wait until he no shows to ask for refund, assuming they did a refund, they would mail a gift card to your home after cruise, so you wouldn't be able to use it until next cruise.

Generally any refunds due to a no show are issued 3-10 days after the cruise is complete and to the funding method used to pay for them. So in your case the refund will be placed on a new gift card then mailed to the address on file for your husband anywhere from 6-19 till 6-26 plus the time the post office takes to deliver it.

You will need to balance the usefulness of having a new GC after the cruise with cancelling Cheers now and purchasing once onboard at the upcharge pricing. Also if you cancel now it still takes 3-10 days to process the refund back to a GC. Though you might try calling Portside Shops customer service number to see if instead Cruise Cash can be purchased with the proceeds of the 2 cancelled Cheers packages imediately.

From what I have read here, they do not assess the Cheers fee for those who do not sail, so the prepaid charges plus port taxes and gratuities and Cheers should all be refunded for the no-show.

If someone else is taking his place in the cabin, who has not purchased Cheers, they would be obligated to purchase it if they are 21 or older.
