reallyhooked Posted March 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2018 does anyone know if the beds on explorer are comfy or hard as a rock[/quotest on last year, our bed was fine. No problem sleeping. Have a great cruise.
blackshirt Posted March 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2018 Unfortunately, that is a matter of opinion and what one person says is fine, you might think is hard as a rock or vice versa. The bed we had on Explorer was pretty much the same as what we've gotten on every other ship.

Your hard as a rock mattress may be my perfect sleep. :D

cb at sea Posted March 21, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 21, 2018 Lol! I like a FIRM bed, with a plushy top....Soft and hard are totally different animals, you know. A "soft" bed means you sink, and have no support. A "hard" bed means you're sleeping on a board.....(this is just my opinion on the phrases used!). I like a FIRM mattress with enough padding to keep my hip bones from hurting. That said...it's only a week...I can pretty much deal with anything for 7 days! tortoisegirl Posted March 30, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 30, 2018 Last fall on Explorer in a balcony cabin our mattress was very basic, on the hard/bouncy side, no pillow top at all. Really different than we have at home, and not very comfy to lay down on, but once I fell asleep I slept just fine. I always sleep really well on cruises though. My biggest complaint about cruise staterooms are the quality of the mattresses, linens, and towels, but I guess you have to get a suite to get anything nice, if even then. Ethelfleda Posted March 30, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 30, 2018 I found them very hard.. but three blankets folded in half under my "topper" (requested in advance from special needs) fixed that problem. Yes, I like a softer bed, and Royals beds kill my hips if I don't pad them like crazy.
