Usually the less formal dining room, Magenta has a sit down breakfast. It's a lot more peaceful than the Garden Cafe.

Actually the more I think about it, sit down breakfast was served in the main dining room, Grand Pacific. Sorry about that :)

We don't need a power breakfast buffet with 99 items to choose from, O'Sheehans @ Deck 8, above the atrium has a limited hot breakfast menu, served until 11 or 11:30 AM, sit-down table service ... and we love those booths by the window, portside that seat 6 to watch the ocean waves (and, sometimes ... swells)

Usually no wait ... besides, not in a hurry to go anywhere in the morning, especially on sea days. Planning to do that again, very soon - countdown isn't fast enough. ;)

Anyone know what restaurants are open for breakfast on the GEM, we used the Brazilian one when on the Sun. less manic than the Garden cafe

"The Brazilian one" is Moderno, and is used only for suite guests for breakfast. However, the MDR (Grand Pacific) is open for breakfast, as well as O'Sheehans as stated above. The Garden Cafe buffet is hectic, however, the overflow can go into LaCucina , which is delightful...and usually empty. You can also take a quick few steps out the back sliding door of Cucina out to the Great Outdoors, which also has a buffet set up and refill your plate or your coffee...and grab a Mimosa or Bloody Mary from the bar out there as well!! Just sayin! ;p:D

There are plenty of tables and seats at La Cucina when they offer this option and there's this Great Outdoors where you can walk out of the room at La Cucina to grab drink and certain breakfast items rather than walk all the way back to the buffet. Some time they have their staffs in La Cucina walking around with juices. And if you want people to serve you your breakfast, then it is best to go to the MDR.
