BikerTom Posted October 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Hello all, thinking about taking this cruise in May 2018...will there be weather restrictions? Also with on shore excursions? Thinking about doing all the onshore excursions first. Thanks!
Rare Essiesmom Posted October 14, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Welcome to Cruise Critic. There is a whole board here about Alaska, under the Ports of Call forums. EM
leaveitallbehind Posted October 14, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Not sure what you mean by weather restrictions as it can always be raining or chilly. But that is the beginning of the Alaska cruise season so my guess would be it will certainly be cooler than mid summer / mid season. Please clarify what you mean by doing all the on shore excursions first.

Krazy Kruizers Posted October 14, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Welcome to Cruise Critic. You may want to fly into Anchorage a couple of days early and do some touring on your own there. May -- we have experienced cool, rainy weather in Alaska. Weather is unpredictable.
Rare Keith1010 Posted October 14, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Weather will not keep the ship from sailing. The actual weather is hard to predict. Could be sunny, or windy or rainy or a combination of it all. I enjoy saying Alaska in May. Keith
Clarea Posted October 14, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 14, 2017 I agree, I'd check out the port of call forum.
new_cruiser Posted October 15, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 15, 2017 If you are planning on doing any touring in Alaska before your cruise starts, there can still be roads that are closed due to weather then. I'm booked on a cruise leaving Seward on May 17 next year. I've checked and the road to Exit Glacier is likely to still be closed due to snow that early. The shuttles into Denali don't start until May 20 and don't go all the way in until some time in June. Some of the boat trips to Kenai Fjords run in May but they don't do the longer ones until June. I've just started a post on the Alaska forum asking about what other excursions might not be available that early.
