We go in three weeks ... Labor Day, I think.

Yes, that’s our disembarkation day :(. We’re thinking of taking the ship’s tour to Sausalito that drops us at the airport after the excursion as we have a late flight. Do you recommend a visit there?

I was on the Grand July 5-15 this year! It was my first time to Alaska and on Princess and I can honestly say I had the time of my life! We did the one sailing of the season that went to Hubbard Glacier and it was spectacular! The Grand was a great ship! The crew was amazing. We enjoyed the food, and I personally thought the best meal I had was at Sabatini's! The Crown Grill was great too! I never once felt that there were 2100 people on the ship! It really is a great experience and I would highly recommend it!

Welcome to Cruise Critic. I don't have all the town infos any more. but this should help. I did find reading about the Gold Rush very helpful.

We like just looking around the port town. A lot to see in them. Here are some places in Ketchikan that we went too.

We were on the July 25 sailing this year. Here's the thread I started of my review:

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2665169

Our trip also did Tracy Arm. You can view our photos here:

Happy sailing!

My favorite picture of yours is the one of your grand son with the blue tongue. So cute.

The one of him sleeping is very cute too!

I love Sausalito... so beautiful and quaint compared to the City. I’ve not been disappointed with most of the princess tours I’ve take and it is nice they also take away the worry about what to do with your luggage.

I do hear there is a place right near pier 39 where you can check your luggage if you want to tour the City on your own. So many options but I think you’ve chosen a good one.

Would love to pick your brain about Alaska sometime Cruise Raider! I cannot imagine going so many times. What a gift.

Anytime!

I used to say that there are so many places to go, I may not keep going back to Alaska ... but now I just say, why in the world did I ever say that? With air travel becoming less and less attractive, we find ourselves booking Alaska a lot. And yes, it is a gift ... I never take it for granted.

Have been on Grand twice this year and multiple times over the past 3 years since she's been ported in S.F (I live here). Agree with all the posters...she's a bit advanced in age (like some of us), creaks a bit (like some of us), is no longer the new ship in the fleet (like some of us), but is definitely a sweetheart. One on her advantages is that she features one of the new Steven Schwartz productions..."Born To Dance". If you like Broadway productions, DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!!! Rather than the typical production show, it focuses on some of the best choreography to ever come out of Broadway (Carousel, West Side Story, Oklahoma, Chicago, A Chorus Line, etc.) and focuses on the dancers themselves. It it outstanding, one of my all time favorite Princess presentations.

Thanks for sharing your advice about the show. I will be sure to catch it this time around.
