cartert Posted November 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2017 I just did 90% of my Holiday shopping by purchasing cruse tickets for the week between Christmas and New Years! But-- What will the weather be like the last week of December in Nassau? --My 13 year- old wants to try snorkeling from the beach, but what is the water temperature that time of year? What's the likelihood of the water being warm enough for an inexperienced snorkeler? -Any beach suggestions? Open to safe public beaches, economical day passes, or maybe even excursions. Would like for him (us) to be able to see something, but stay safe in and out of the water. Chairs to rent would be a plus. Thanks in advance. . . scubagirrl Posted November 28, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 28, 2017 Dec. weather can be a bit too chilly for snorkeling. Generally speaking, I don't usually get into the water past my knees during this time.
paxpax07 Posted November 28, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2017 I think your responses may vary depending on what you are used to. We are coming from the east coast of Canada. The water in the Bahamas in Dec is warmer than ours in August. We will be there in Dec as well, and we'll all be in. WaterView2 Posted December 4, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 4, 2017 December weather is quite changeable in the Bahamas, depends on if a cold front is blowing through from the NW. Statistics say average water temp. is in the 70s, air temp also in the 70s, typically 9 rainy days in Dec. but those are not a given. I have been in the ocean on sunny, warm December days near Nassau, but have also encountered cool, rainy weather.
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 4, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 4, 2017 Yes the weather is variable. Water temperature in the low to mid 70's. Keith
BNBR Posted December 5, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 5, 2017 You just have to jump in. Can definitely get in the water, though you may not want to stay in as long. The springs in Florida are 72 degrees all year and VERY popular with swimmers. People definitely swim in chilly water. Just have to "go for it". I would expect the Bahamas water to be in the 74 - 75 range in December.
