Bringing an immersion coil onboard the Epic

After our transatlantic crossing, DH and I are going to be bumming around Spain/Portugal for 3 weeks. With this in mind, I need to bring my immersion coil. Since it is a “fire hazard” I will not use it on board. Will I be allowed to bring it in my luggage? If it is confiscated how do I get it back before getting off the ship in Barcelona?

Thanks

Please pardon my wicked sense of humor, Linnie........but what are we talking about here? :

Immersion :)

Coil:D

Fire;)

lol....lol...lol......

I know you are talking about an immersion coil water heater which as you well know is a big NO NO on cruiseships.

If they find it, they will "confiscate" and in all probability Security will hold it for you until the end of the cruise.

Just make sure that it is rated 220v/240v because if it is just rated for 110v/120v....it will be toast the very first time you will try to use it Spain/Portugal and I guess most other countries in Europe, if not all of Europe.

Thanks,

Fred

If you leave it in your luggage, your luggage will be confiscated and you will spend some [a lot] time on embarkation day, in line with the others with contraband, to get your luggage. If confiscated, you will have to claim it in Barcelona (usually at the gangway).

I would not bring it. Make due once you get ashore.

I always travel with one of theses in my toiletries bag. I forgot to pull it out for a cruise. Never got caught by ship security. I never used it, but it did clear security pull w no issue. I think it was its placement in my bag.

Don't worry if NCL confiscate it upon embarkation - they'll just hold it until the disembarkation - they'll give you a slip of paper for you to show when collecting it at the end of cruise.

We do have a story to tell .... pretty funny ...

Our last TA - Getaway - Copenhagen to Miami - via Bermuda ;p - we spent over a week in CPH visiting family and friends and we of course did shopping. We saw and bought stuff that we don't normally get in Bermuda (but if available in Bermuda the prices are high).

We had a good but very busy week in CPH and we boarded at 3pm. Went directly to cabin and unpacked the carry-ons. Rested a bit and then it was time to attend the muster drill.

After the muster drill, we had our first traditional cosmo martinis, then had another, then attended the sailaway party in Spice H2O, had more drinks, then went for dinner, then etc, etc. We finally clambered back to our room close to midnight, only to see one bag there and a letter - yes, we expected it, our fault - saying the other 2 bags have been confiscated.

We went down to Guest Services with the letter - yeah we were tipsy but in good spirits. A Security came out and escorted us to back room - service areas where our 2 bags solitarily sat. I immediately went over, unlocked them, took out Friskar knives, scissors and stainless steel BBQ skewers (16" long!!) and handed them over to the Security. He (a Nepalese) smiled and asked where we were from and when we told him he laughed and said Understood! The stuff

were anyway heavily seal-packaged and still unopened from the store.

When ship docked in Bermuda we re-claimed the offending stuff and took them off ship and took them home along with 2 bags. We returned to the ship to continue the cruise to Miami.

Forgive my asking, but I've never heard of an immersion coil... Why would such a thing be necessary? Is hot water not available in Spain or Portugal?

Sent from my SM-G930V using Forums mobile app

I like tea in the morning without having to venture out into the world (or even into a shared Airbnb or hostel kitchen)

A girl after my own heart, have had this problem before :

Hi folks,

Greetings from sunny Glasgow.

Got a bit of a problem & would like your spin on it.Hotel in Barcelona does not have kettle teamaking facilities etc. So I will take my little hot water element to boil in the cup.

Fine so far however, this will be a prohibited item & shouldn't be taken on the shipclear.png?emoji-eek-1725clear.png?emoji-eek-1725clear.png?emoji-eek-1725

Just to be clear i've no intention of using it anywhere elseclear.png?emoji-embarrass-1727:

Should I pack it in my case & wait for me to be called to the NAUGHTY ROOM ?

or Will I pack it in my carry on, but I'd be worried its confiscated @ the port & not returned to me (I want it back as it has sentimental value to me)clear.png?emoji-eek-1725

Would appreciate anybody's thoughts on this.

TIA

Evie

I packed it in my case along with a 'sad note' explaining the sentimental value it held for me. Carol still laughs @ the pathetic note I wrote.
