Counterfeit Chinces Currency

My Daughter was on a trip to China a few years ago and said that counterfeit Chinese currency is common there. She said that when you buy the currency, always do it at a bank where it is scanned. Also, don't take change from street vendors. If you get change at a shop, make sure it is scanned first.

Is this still a problem in China?

We got our currency from ATMs and never had a problem with change.

If you venture into Macao or Hong Kong, use their respective currency only from banks or bank atms. While they are a part of China, there's a lot of counterfeiting of Yuan in those places.

Is this still a problem in China?

We have just come back from China and we were given change in markets which was counterfeit or from Kazastan or one of those countries. Just watch your change, don't use 100 yen notes have lots of 10's and 20 yuan instead. Our guide warned us it is quite common so beware in markets or vendor stalls, but there is no problems at ATMs or in normal stores or restaurants.

We were there in March and our guide said that that was unfortunately a common scam with certain street vendors. We were able to purchase chinese currency here in the states ahead of time in ten and twenty denominations.
