This is my original plan

Day 1Arrive in Seward take the bus to Anchorage. Pick up rental car spend the night in Anchorage.

Day 2 Drive to Denali, stopping along the way to see places of interest. Spend the night in Healy.

Day 3 Do a bus tour of Denali. Spend the night in Healy

Day 4 Head to Fairbanks, stopping along the way to see places of interest and explore Fairbanks. Spend the night in Fairbanks.

Day 5 Maybe take a tour of the Artic Circle or explore Fairbanks some more. Spend the night in Fairbanks.

Day 6 Drive to Glennallen, stopping to see places of interest along the way. Spend the night in Glennallen.

Day 7 Drive to Anchorage, stopping along the way to see places of interest. Spend the night in Anchorage,

Day 8 Explore Anchorage. Turn rental car in and fly home

But I'm thinking of dropping Fairbanks and doing Seward and Valdez. What would be the best way for me to do this?

what do you mean by " doing Seward and Valdez" ?

what activities interest you at each location; how much time do you need for those activities? You need to have an idea of what you want to see and do in order to develop the itinerary.

ie if your only interest in Seward is a Kenai daycruise, you could do that after disembarking the ship then take an evening train or bus to Anchorage. But if you have additional plans, you may need a night or 2 in Seward. Same with Valdez. Or could you do the boat tour in Valdez instead of in Kenai?

You are early in your planning, I suggest starting over, if you add Valdez, I would not consider this, unless you are going to invest in several more days.

I suggest, you- determine WHAT you want to see and do in these places- THEN worry about the routing . Your activities will dictate the the time you need.

Have you selected a cruise?

Get more information, then rank your selections depending on your time.

I love the drive to Valdez... I get what the others are saying when they say skip it, but you could include it. Something like this:

Day 1Arrive in Seward , do a Kenai Fjords cruise and evening train to Anchorage..

Day 2 Pick up rental car. Drive to Denali, stopping along the way to see places of interest. Spend the night in Healy. Lodging options: http://www.denalichamber.com/denali-member-directory/

Day 3 Do a park shuttle (not a tour) of Denali. Spend the night in Healy. Shuttle details: https://www.nps.gov/dena/planyourvisit/shuttles.htm

Day 4 Drive to the Matanuska Glacier for a glacier hike: https://micaguides.com/ or https://www.novalaska.com/ or http://matanuskaglacieradventures.us/ . Spend the night in Glacierview area. Some lodging options: http://tundrarosecabins.com/ or http://sheepmountain.com/ or https://www.homesteadcabinsak.com/

Day 5 Continue onto Valdez. Overnight in Valdez

Day 6 Day in Valdez. http://www.valdezalaska.org/

Day 7 Drive to Anchorage, stopping along the way to see places of interest. Spend the night in Anchorage, OR if your dates work out you could take the Alaska Marine Highway ferry from Vadlez to Whittier. http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/

Day 8 Explore Anchorage. Turn rental car in and fly home
