Bermuda

I started looking at cruises to Bermuda for Spring 2009 a couple of months ago. The only Carnival sailing I found was one leaving NYC for 6 days on April 16, 2009.

I know RCL has the Majesty and NCL has a ship doing cruises to Bermuda but since we are Platinum on Carnival and enjoy the perks I went ahead and put the deposit down. I wish I would have had more than 1 sailing date to choose from but I guess if I want to see Bermuda via Carnival I will to just go with what I could get.

Now if one of the Cat 11 aft wraps comes available life would be good.

It would be nice, however, with the Holiday leaving the fleet, they do not have a ship small enough to enter Hamiltonm or St. Georges. The only other option left is the Dockyard which docking space (only room for 2 ships) is pretty much booked solid between NCL, Royal Carribean and the day callers. The only option Carnival would have is to tender, and i don't see them running an itinerary where they would have to tender for 3 or 4 straight days.

Happy Cruising!

Would anyone else like to have a Carnival ship going either from NYC or Philly to Bermuda from April to November. Surely, they could take one of their ships from the Caribbean to do this?

I would book it right away if carnival went to Bermuda in August

Correct myself, The Miracle is going one week in April

HAL is returning to Bermuda 2010 and will dock in Hamilton and St George.... :)

I think Azamara goes too...

Holland America Line Returning to Bermuda Roundtrip Cruises from New York City to Start in 2010

Seattle, WA, August 30, 2008 - Beginning in 2010, Holland America Line will once again sail on regularly scheduled cruises between New York City and Bermuda. Holland America is the only major cruise line that calls on both Hamilton and St. George's, Bermuda's cultural and shopping hubs. Additionally, guests of Holland America Line will have an opportunity to fully experience Bermuda's British charm and its unique island culture by day and by night with multi-day stays in each port.

When the 1,350-guest ms Veendam sails in late August 2010 on the first of 10 roundtrips to the island, it will mark Holland America Line's return to New York City as a home port and to Bermuda as a destination.

Holland America Line worked closely with the Bermudian government to form the partnership that takes Holland America Line back to the island that it first visited more than 70 years ago. In 1926, Veendam II, with a guest capacity of approximately 500, left New York on the company's first Caribbean cruise. During the summers of 1930 and 1931, Veendam II sailed on five-day roundtrip cruises between New York and Bermuda.

"We are thrilled to homeport a ship in New York City again and especially to be returning to Bermuda," said Richard D. Meadows, executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs, "and it's particularly relevant to be doing so on a ship with the same name as the one that sailed to Bermuda so many years ago".

"Veendam is ideal for this itinerary," Meadows noted. "She is a premium mid-size ship, the perfect size to navigate the narrow entrances to the harbors in Hamilton and St. George's. Veendam's guests are able to step off the ship right in the center of each town. Ships larger than Veendam must tie up at the Dockyard facility a considerable distance from both towns.

"With overnight stays in Hamilton and St. George's, guests will truly have the time to explore Bermuda and gain an appreciation of its culture, its people and its history as well as the time to relax on the island's beaches, play a full round - or two - of golf on its world-renowned golf courses or partake of the many activities offered."

The clean and friendly historic island, with its forts to discover, horses to ride, kayaks to paddle and oceans to explore, is an excellent destinations for families. "Cruising to Bermuda with Holland America Line is also an outstanding value when compared to staying in land-based resorts," Meadows noted.

"We are looking forward to our new relationship with Holland America Line," said Bermuda's Premier, the Hon. Dr. Ewart F. Brown, JP, MP. "When Veendam's passengers disembark in Bermuda they will be treated as warmly as they are on board. We believe Bermudians are among the friendliest people in the world and we can't wait to extend that hospitality to Veendam in 2010 and 2011. Holland America Line is one of the world's most recognized and highly regarded cruise brands and we look forward to our partnership."

In addition to the ten sailings between late August and October in 2010, Holland America Line will visit the island and its towns for a full season beginning in May the following year, with 20 or more sailings anticipated.

Founded in 1609, the town of St. George's in the northeast area of Bermuda is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the second oldest settlement in North America. Only Jamestown in the United States is older. Narrow, twisting streets and pastel-painted houses create a European feel. The oldest Anglican Church in North America is in St. George's and many other historic buildings, most made of stone, have been preserved. More than a dozen forts dating to the 17th century are scattered in the hills surrounding the town.

Hamilton, the major commercial hub and seat of government, is in the geographic center of the island and is close to south shore beaches. Veendam will dock at the town's front door just steps from Front Street and its colorful array of shops and restaurants. Hamilton is home to a massive 19th-century, neo-Gothic cathedral and the Georgian-style Sessions House dating to 1815.

Actually RCI has the Explorer (Voyager Class) and NCL has 3 ships, (Dawn out of NY, Spirit out of Boston and the Majesty out of Philidelphia, Baltimore and Charleston) doing the Bermuda runs.

HAL is also going to have the Veendam sailing a few cruises for 2009 and an entire season in 2010.

I agree with ya about HAL. Might be a little too sedate for myself, but at the same time,on a Bermuda cruise, its more about Bermuda than it is the ship, so im torn :p . My favorite cruises thus far have been the 3 i took on the Royal Majesty to Bermuda (NCL's Majesty when she was new) and my Zenith cruises to Bermuda. The Dockyard area is nice, but its almost a different world docking in Hamilton and St Georges. Thats why im a bit intrigued by HAL. There is no way i would ever set foot on NCL's Majesty again, and the Zenith/Horizon are both gone, so am really contemplating it.

Been on the Dawn twice, pretty ship, NCL not my favorite line, but they do offer a decent product at good price.

Hi Trock,

Have you done the Dawn to Bermuda before? I was looking at going to Bermuda from either Boston or NYC and was looking at the Dawn but it has gotten some horrible reviews lately. How was your experience.?

I have friends (CC members) that cruise on the Dawn quite a lot and love it.

I have sailed the NCL Spirit (which I think is the Dawn's sister ship) and loved it.

I'd try the Dawn...but I would prefer Carnival ...and I mean when it's warmer there. I think April would be too cool for me.

I alternately took the Zenith and the Horizon to Bermuda about 5 times...

Bermuda is my favorite island.. and docking in St George and Hamilton was amazing!

I could not imagine docking at the Royal Navy- We went there a couple of times and just found it boring.. and to take a ferry to Hamilton was at least 20 minutes If I remember correctly

You're right.. Cruising to Bermuda is more about Bermuda.. What a wonderful place! (love the Crystal Caves!)

We were on the Dawn last year for a cruise to nowhere. The ship was beautiful! One of our favorite and plan to cruise her again.. We were on the Spirit (NCL) last weekend for a CTN, and this is a ship I would not sail for anything longer than a CTN.. It was clean and well kept and areas were beautiful but the some areas were very very dated. When We were in the Casino we felt like we were in someone's basement! Just didnt have a good feel for this ship. Ceilings were low and the area ... well looked like a basement! LOL

I'd be in! Love Bermuda in the summer. We've done Celebrity and RCCL since Carnival didn't go there, but if they did I'd get right in line. As for HAL, if enough of us were on the same sailing it would turn into a Carnival cruise we know and love. :D :D

That'd be a great cruise. Crashing the HAL ship....HAHA :p

I would love that! They can take one of the ships that goes to the Bahamas. ;)

I am contemplating taking NCL to Bermuda next summer but I'd much rather go Carnival.

We just booked with NCL to Bermuda for next May but wished we could do Carnival. There is such a limited choice but the upside is we leave out of Boston which means no air fare which means more play money!

Bermuda is our favorite destination.:D We're heading down next June with a CC Group and can't wait to return. While we to would like to see CCL go down there as well, cruising on NCL out of NYC, going with a CC Group, and having FreeStyle dining are just three more good reasons we're returning to beautiful Bermuda! Plus; the Tall Ships will be celebrating Bermuda's 400 years of permanent settlement the week of our cruise. Hope all you Bermuda lovers can join us!:)

They did a bunch of summer Bermuda cruises on the Pride back in 2003 (at least 10). It was our first trip to Bermuda, and we LOVED it. We spent 3 glorious days at Dockside.

With a nice aft balcony, we felt we had the best room on the island overlooking the bay, and feeling those Bermuda breezes.

We were disappointed when they only offered that April sailing the following and all subsequent years, too early in the season, with two days instead of three.

So we've been doing RCCL since then just to get back there. :(
