Anne Frank excursion

We have just been informed by P&O that our booked excursion to Anne Franks house for our December cruise on Aurora has been cancelled. We booked through the cruise line to protect our money as on previous visits, the ship has been unable to dock at Amsterdam.

P&O have advised we book direct, but I assume this does not help us if we fail to dock.

Has anybody booked this direct and if so, how does it work?

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Hi Andy, yes we booked direct and you choose a time and print off the confirmation. Turn up about 20 minutes early and in you go, if you arrive to early they ask you to go away and come back at your time to prevent massive queues. I think you can only book 3 months in advance, just check the website for details.

It is much cheaper than P&O but you do run the risk of not getting in port with Amsterdam. If walking from the ship allow 30-45 minutes.

Cheers

Check your travel insurance.

Specialist Cruise insurance will include payments for missed ports and missed excursions. Travel insurance with added cruise cover may not pay out for missed ports etc. (but is probably cheaper)

We had booked a tour last December, but could not dock in Amsterdam. Reluctantly P&O gave us some free internet access and l did manage to contact the Anne Frank house to explain our situation, and they kindly refunded our entrance fees.

We have been on a number of pre Christmas cruises and unfortunately our record getting into Amsterdam is about 50%. Brugge is also a bit hit and miss at that time of year.

When we visited the Anne Frank house we took a chance and just turned up first thing in the morning to get tickets at the door. It is however a matter of pure luck if that would work depending on the number of ships in, school trips etc.

Thank you all for your very helpful replies.

P & O say that the reason they can no longer offer the tours is the museum has changed its policies and will no longer sell to a third party. It seems the only booking option is online in advance. We shall do this and take our chances, it is very low cost compared to what we did pay through P&O.

Thanks again.

Andy
