LindaJ+ Posted October 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2015 ... lists schedule demonstrations in Athens on their website, including where they will be. I thought this was pretty funny! But good to know!

roothy123 Posted October 23, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 23, 2015 There's something you can sign up for on the U.S. State Department dot gov web site which will generate notices of demonstrations in any iffy city you'll be visiting. A couple people on our Roll Call were concerned about Istanbul and signed up. The notices tell you when and where a demonstration is planned, and urge vigilance if you're around that area. I didn't sign up, but a few days after we were in Istanbul there was a peace demonstration there (but not where we were sightseeing or docked) that resulted in deaths from a bomb placed in the crowd. I guess it couldn't hurt to sign up for this kind of notification, but you also need to keep in mind that cities like Athens and Istanbul are very large, and what happens in one part of the city isn't likely to impact other parts of the city. The notifications terrified a couple people on our Roll Call to the point where they were planning to stay on the ship in Istanbul. That would have been a real shame...likewise for Athens. Rare Got2Cruise Posted October 23, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 23, 2015 ... lists schedule demonstrations in Athens on their website, including where they will be. I thought this was pretty funny! But good to know! It's not funny, but helpful. The demonstrations in Greece often result with the police spraying tear gas. You wouldn't want to be in the area.
