PORT ROYAL Posted March 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 15, 2018 Another Antigua thought..... Do all Antiguan men walk like Ivan going out to bat at Lords, or does Ivan walk like all Antiguan men?
Unibok Posted March 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 15, 2018 On all our cruises to Antigua- the ships Captain, CD etc pronounced it with a w- Antingwua- I found that the locals do not - it's Antiga to them Our tour guide yesterday explained it: the name came from Columbus, who transported it it from Europe, pronounced Antigwa. Over time, in a nod to their independence, the local pronunciation is Antiga (no w). Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare jean87510 Posted March 16, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 16, 2018 lol. Our cab driver from airport quickly corrected us - Antiga not gwa.. That's funny. I actually was corrected by non Antiguans on my new pronunciation. They stated that they were frequent cruisers to the Caribbean and I was NOT pronouncing it correctly. I said ok....
