gbenjo Posted September 11, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2014 Wonder if that will be permanent. Looks a little odd. It is permanent but the photo is only of the substructure and was probably taken a couple of weeks ago. Last Saturday all the steel reo bar was in place ready to have the concrete poured. Will try and get a photo of it poured next time the Spirit is in (next Tuesday 16th)

goodycruising Posted September 13, 2014 #18 Share Posted September 13, 2014 At the risk of getting people to repeat themselves, when is the project expected to be completed? I am sure I have seen posts about it before, but as these things don't usually run to schedule I didn't take it in very well. Thanks in advance! :)
keagle Posted September 13, 2014 #19 Share Posted September 13, 2014 What length is that extension? Hard to tell but it looks about 30 meters.
gaechann Posted September 13, 2014 #20 Share Posted September 13, 2014 What length is that extension? Hard to tell but it looks about 30 meters. www.optsydney.com.au Due to major renovations, the OPT will be unavailable for venue hire between 31 March and January/February 2015. http://www.sydneyports.com.au Key features of the design include: *Extend the existing wharf structure approximately 60 metres to the north *Provide a new northern mooring dolphin (a fixed above water mooring structure which is not connected to shore) in Campbells Cove *Install a new land based mooring bollard to the south of the OPT *Install corrosion protection (called a cathodic protection system) along the existing wharf *Install three fenders (buffers to protect the wharf and ships during mooring) along the new wharf structure *Install a scour protection system to shield against vessel generated erosion for the wharf extension *Install new power and lighting services to the new structures

gbenjo Posted September 13, 2014 #22 Share Posted September 13, 2014 At the risk of getting people to repeat themselves, when is the project expected to be completed? I am sure I have seen posts about it before, but as these things don't usually run to schedule I didn't take it in very well. Thanks in advance! :) The first "stage" is supposed to be ready in December ( am not sure what the first stage includes though) and they are saying February / March for completion but that may be a tad optimistic as the start of the season will mean a ship berthed at the OPT almost every second day and that would probably slow things down a fair bit. The "demolition" stage is approaching completion, they still have to cut holes for the extra banks of elevators and travelators, and then I guess they will start forming up for the extra level (which I believe will be the check in level) between the ground level and the existing check in level. gbenjo Posted September 13, 2014 #25 Share Posted September 13, 2014 Build it and they will come.:D Problem is where do they go when they get here? There are no other ports to berth at and they could not do a tender on that size ship so a cruise to no where is the only option:eek:
