Taxi to Arashi

Just looked at the Aruba tourism website and it shows that the last bus from Arashi to Oranjestad is at 1:56 p.m. We may want to stay later than this. Anyone know how much a taxi might be from port to Arashi and back?

Not sure of the cost, but it will be reasonable. Your bigger problem might be finding a taxi that time of the day. Worst case is that you can hike towards Palm Beach which is less then 3 miles :). Also keep in mind that there are larger vans that move around the island acting as the local transportation system (this is how many locals get around). They are actually licensed bus-taxis and you can flag them down along the road (they will usually stop if they think you are looking for a ride). Their cost is quite cheap and from Arashi to town I would guess its no more then $5 per person (likely less).

Arashi now has a facility with drinks, some food and rest rooms (at least it was open last year). Those folks would also probably help you get a taxi....if necessary.

Here is the bus schedule. If you look at the schedule for the L10, which is the bus you will take, you will see that the bus runs to Arashi until after dark every day. Just make sure that you don't wait for the last one, in case something happens. There won't be any more, and the snack bar will probably be closed by then, so you may not have a way of contacting a taxi.

Thanks so much, Hank! It’s been several years since we were there and there was nothing but a palapa or two. I appreciate the info.

Just a reminder (and a heads up for others who might be interested) that its a pretty long swim from the beach to the best parts of the reef (for snorkeling). For anyone that plans to snorkel from Arashi, you will need to have fins. The last time we were there (last December) we watched a couple trying to get to the reef with just a mask and snorkel (no fins) and they were pretty exhausted before they got out to the best area. If you are not sure where to go, you want to swim towards the left (as you enter the water) and work your way out to sea. You will likely see several snorkel tour boats in the area and you can use them as a guide to where to go for the best snorkeling. We also have had pretty good luck snorkeling in closer to shore (a few hundred yards to the left (looking out to sea) near the rocks (and some reef).

Just my opinion on this...it's sorta hard to snorkel from Arashi out to the area everyone goes because there's a lot of areas you can get stuck in with the coral and such.

It's so much easier to go from Boca Catalina and just swim right. It was fairly shallow all the way out to the area the boats go to and I could even stand up most of the way. :D

is it a good beach for dipping. shallow waters? Taking 80 years old mum from cruise. We like the idea of a less crowded beach - plan to be there most of the day from 10 am to 4 pm - she cannot swim but loves to dip.

thanks in advance for the kind reply
