BCN Airport Taxi Service

When catching a Taxi at BCN (for travel from airport to hotel the day before a cruise) is there anything we should know in regards to safety? Are there various taxi companies? Is there any company that should not be used? Do they all have the same rates? Will there be signs to direct us where to catch a taxi?

No, nothing you need to know, there's no issue with safety. All taxis, regardless whether working for a company or as sole-proprietors, all are painted the same: black and yellow and all apply the same fares -which are regulated by the Metropolitan Taxi Institute and vary annually. Yes, there'll be signs, actually, you "stumble" with the taxi ranks -there are several- as you get out of the terminals. Just get in line and when it's your turn catch the first in the line. Besides, as mentioned they're colourfully painted, so there's no chance you'll miss them :) The fares and the additional charges are printed on large stickers inside the taxi, in the passenger side windows... these are the fares for 2018 anyway. Most drivers are honest but DO ASK FOR A RECEIPT if you feel you've been "taken for a ride" and then make a complaint at the website

Enjoy!

Thank you, information is so helpful. I am always amazed at how easy it is to get an answer on Cruise Critic. We are staying at the Renaissance Barcelona Fira overnight, did some research, it seems to be in a good location between airport and cruise port.

While the taxi should accept credit card have euros as a back up.

In terms of safety when you get out of the taxi be sure you have all of your items and just keep valuables including passports with you at all times.

... should any of you "lose" something on a taxi, you *might* be able to recover it -it all depends on the driver's honesty, of course- because stuff left behind is normally taken to the Lost and Found at the Metropolitan Taxi Institute: http://taxi.amb.cat/en/home Even better if you asked for a receipt, it'd be easier to locate the taxi you lost it in.

Yes, minivans. Simply wait your turn in the queue and when you arrive at the head of the line ask the taxi marshall to call up a minivan. If any is available -and they normally are- it'll come in a few minutes. They can hold up to 7 pax with luggage.
