June 19-26 Live on Oasis

Recommended Posts

We're on the Oasis this week! What an awesome ship! A couple of interesting observations:

- That dude with the balloons is missing from the front of Johnny Rockets. I have no idea why. I'll ask someone.

- This ship is almost full, but feels less crowded than Liberty of the Seas did in 2007. Unbelievable that there are no crowds. We have only seen lines at MTD and Flow Rider :)

- On departure day we saw a film crew outside Check-in and a helicopter followed the boat out of Port Everglades as we departed. They told us they are filming a commercial or a movie (not sure which one).

- Ok, I'm a little disappointed about the Flow Rider availability. It is only open for stand-up for 4 hours today. They only have the starboard side open today because they are filming the movie on the port side. I have complained (nicely) to guest services and they suggested I talk to the sports deck people.

- The only other negative comment I have is the lack of clocks around the ship.

- Staterooms really don't feel smaller than other ships I've been on. And we aren't there much.

- Solarium Bistro has my FAVORITE breakfast selections and it is really a nice place to eat breakfast and lunch.

- Vitality Cafe seems to be a little secret, and has really good healthy options.

- We're at Windjammer right now and had no problem getting a table for 5 at noon.

- It was eerily quiet all around the ship around 10pm the first day. I took photos in several areas. We checked every bar, lounge, pool deck and could not find people. There were things happening (bands, guitar player, pianist at Schooner), but there were no passengers! So weird. Maybe everyone was unpacking.

- Yesterday, I was chatting with the guy next to me in line at the Flow Rider and after about 10 minutes he introduced himself. It was Paul O'Shea the pianist at the Schooner Bar. Super nice guy and I had fun talking to him. And he's an awesome surfer. We visited him at work last night.

- Richard Spacey is the cruise director.

- Oasis of Dreams last night was wonderful!!

Katie's favorite part of the cruise so far is Senor Frogs. She and Caitlin also like exploring the ship and finding all the secret spots.

Caitlin's favorite part of the cruise so far is Nassau. This is her first cruise, and she is having a hard time picking a favorite.

Kellye's favorite part of the cruise so far is that we are on a cruise ship with 6000 people and it feels like 1000. She can't believe how organized it is.

Chris's favorite part of the cruise is the salty air.

My favorite part of the cruise so far is just seeing all the new things on this ship.

Any questions?

What is the passenger count? How many people on your sailing?

I can't believe it feels less crowded than the Freedom class...

You checked every bar and pool and you couldn't find any people?

Are you sure you are on Oasis?

Thanks for the live post and I hope you have an amazing time! We were on in May and had the best vacation ever.

Can you comment on how the weather is so far today? Is it very humid?

Thx...

You're welcome! We are loving this vacation so far.

Today's weather has been a little overcast off and on. Right now, it's partly cloudy. It doesn't feel humid because we're moving pretty quickly and it's breezy on deck.

I am not sure the passenger count. I'll try to ask someone. When I checked ********** a couple of days before the cruise I couldn't find any availability for 3+ pax and maybe 10-20 cabins for 2. It really does feel less crowded to us. However, we were on one of the first few Liberty sailings and it was a cruise right after Norovirus, so maybe it felt more crowded because some venues were closed (Johnny Rockets) and they were hand-serving at buffets, etc. I promise we're on Oasis! :)

Only 1000, huh? :D That made me laugh. Very cute.

Have a GREAT cruise!

hi, great!

thanks for posting while on board Oasis. Its great to read as its happening. Good to hear Oasis of Dreams was on last night as i heard it was cancelled the day before? Do you have any photos of the show? My son is one of the divers and we are hanging for some pics of him:) Have you been to any of the other shows? Are you on Western or Eastern cruise? Im going in August - did you book your shows etc online before you went or did you do it on board?Did you find out abt the film crew?Glad you are having a great time - but yes very strange about no people the first night - maybe they were all too tired from all of the excitement of going on board :) look forward to your next installment.

Thanks for the live post. I agree about the clocks there's really a lack of them on all boats. That's terrible about the limited use if the sports court and other areas for a film crew. I would complain to. I hope there's no filming on our cruise in October.

You're welcome. It must have been canceled one night because tonight is the make-up show. We did take several pictures of the show. I'll try to find and upload them when I have some time (it may be after the cruise).

Is your son "Mowgli"? My girls fell in love with him.

We haven't been to any of the other shows yet. All of our reservations are for later in the week.

We're on Eastern, in St Thomas this morning.

We reserved our shows online, but I can tell you that Oasis of Dreams had plenty of empty seats for walk-ins and I doubt there's a bad seat in the house.

Don't know what the film crew was doing, but I did complain as did several others, and they ended up opening the port side Flow Rider at 2pm, so it was really only closed to stand-up for 3 hours, and Boogie ended up getting more time than was scheduled as well. So it all worked out.

Enjoying your live review, but I am not too envious because I will get on in 5 days!! I have a friend on there now, too....she is doing a B to B. Don't eat all of the food....save some for me!! How is the food compared to other cruises?????
Oh you'll LOVE your cruise! We have eaten all dinners in the MDR and have found the food so-so. My husband and I agree that MDR food on Carnival tends to be higher quality. However, the food variety and availability throughout the rest of the ship all day is wonderful. The healthy options are awesome, and there's plenty of burgers, hot dogs, pizza, tacos, nachos, etc. Wipe Out Cafe is a nice place for a quick bite on the run when you're on the Sports Deck (where we have spent most of our daytime hours). Tonight, we have Chops. Looking forward to that!

Love the live posts.....I get on the wonder ship in a few days too. Tips on what not to miss?
Well, so far I'd say don't miss Oasis of Dreams. Don't miss the views from Viking Crown Lounge, Windjammer and the secret Deck 14 port side over the bridge. Don't miss Paul O'Shea in Schooner Bar. And be sure to at least take a stroll through the Solarium. It is gorgeous.

Today we're in St Thomas. Last night, we put in an order for a variety of breakfast items for all 5 of us from room service, so we could eat on our balcony as we arrived in St Thomas. If you have a balcony cabin, starboard side, I HIGHLY recommend doing this It has been really neat to do.

Let's see where I left off -

Yesterday we jogged the track on Deck 5 and visited the gym. The track is super nice, breezy and they have motivational signs all the way around, which makes it fun. The equipment in the gym is state-of-the-art and really clean. It was a little crowded mid-afternoon yesterday, but nothing we couldn't deal with.

A couple of negatives about the fitness area -

1 - it is low on the ship (deck 6) and has port holes, rather than windows. We really liked LOS's floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic view from the cardio equipment.

2 - the track is on Deck 5, which is probably better than running in the hot sun (a plus), but it runs outside the My Time Dining floor of the Main Dining Room, so diners with window tables get a lovely view of joggers and lifeboats. Not too appealing. I wonder if the view from window tables on 3 and 4 in the MDR is better.

Windjammer had a nice selection and variety for lunch yesterday.

Last night was Italian Night in the MDR. I recommend this night for the atmosphere and wait staff singing and dancing. Our waiter is Celeste (not very exciting) but her assistant is Donnel from Jamaica and he is a heck of a lot of fun! We ask for a table in their section each night and have been able to get one with a 5 minute wait.

Some clubs are still deserted at various times of the night. Schooner Bar is fun, but same songs each night. We stopped by Boleros and really wanted to salsa but we think we've forgotten our moves and were intimidated. (We took 2 years of ballroom dance - salsa, East Coast and West Coast Swing)

Last night there was an Abslout Escape Beach Party in the Solarium. It rained, so it was confined to the area under the glass covers and pretty crowded. It was quite a hit. They would not allow our 17 year old in and were scanning Sea Pass cards and matching photo the the person - very strict about this.

During the party, Blaze was empty. Dazzles was rumored to be good last night, and under-18 are allowed in there with a guardian. We didn't make it there until they were closing though.

Took my 18-year-old to the casino for her first time and we ended up winning over $150 in Blackjack. That will pay for Chops!

Oh, and we took a Flowrider lesson at 6:15 last night. We had 4 people in our group at first, then they added 2. This was great to get us lots of water time and we were able to progress pretty well. It also rained on us a little during the session, but that didn't bother us. We learned that the water is heated in the Flow Riders, so when it got cool, we dangled our feet almost like a hot tub. We were wiped out after that session!

I have already checked our party in for our flights on Saturday and we are doing luggage valet. This will be super convenient since our flight isn't until 4pm and we won't have to cart our luggage all around Ft Lauderdale.

I also bought the "Live the Oasis" book, but we haven't had a chance to start the tour.

Today we have a tour and some shopping. I'll try to check in tomorrow. Let me know if there are questions.

Hey Amethyst,

I was catching up on some reading here on the boards and checking out people's picture links etc and found someone who's got a lot of photo's and some video's from the Oasis.

Included in the video's is the ending of the Aqua Theatre show that may feature your son! Hope you get to see him! :)

Thanks for the live post. I will definitely be tuning in all week. Not sure if I missed it or not, but did you ever find out what happened to the guy holding the balloons by Johnny Rockets? Now that you mentioned it, I'm a little curious about that. Let us know what you eat at Chops also...love to hear what yummy things others are having while we sit at work daydreaming. Have an awesome time!

I stopped by Guest Services a few minutes ago and asked about him. The lady said "what about him?" I told her he's gone and she said she has no idea. I will try asking someone at the Boardwalk Bar.

I stopped by Guest services to cancel our MTD reservation for tonight since we have ressies at Chops. They said it's not necessary to cancel those. I am not sure that MTD reservations mean much anyway, as we end up standing in the same line as the stand-bys every night.

While there, I asked about the ship's current passenger count and she said it is 6130. She said full capacity is 6200, but the Inaugural Season Oasis t-shirts say 6296 is full capacity. Either way, we are only a few staterooms short of full. And we still don't feel like there are that many on this ship. Incredible!

Today's observation - be careful with booking a tour with an unaffiliated vendor. Due to rush hour, we barely made it back to the ship on time. We did a Sunny Liston Tour. Elvis was our driver, and the price was right. We got a lot out of our day here. We felt that the time at Sapphire Beach was a little too long for our group at 2.5 hours, but we stuck it out. Sapphire feels run down. We dropped a couple off at Coki and it looked run down as well and very crowded. In hindsight, we should have selected Meghan's Bay.

I want to add that leaving and returning to the ship are both a piece of cake (or have been in both ports so far). Never much of a line. They check our Sea Pass cards numerous times upon re-embarking.

Still - we need more clocks on this ship. I am hearing the same comment from many.

I received an email response from RCI tonight about the limited Flow Rider time yesterday. They have forwarded to the onboard manager. It may not change anything, but they said they appreciate our loyalty and understand that the Flow Rider can be a priority for some passengers. They want to make sure it is reported to the proper people. I was happy with this response.

We are enjoying a cocktail on our balcony before cleaning up for dinner. Then we're thinking of hitting Vintages or Rising Tide immediately before Chops. Tonight is Qwest, and I am requiring everyone in our party to attend :)

thankyou! Im not sure of his stage name. ill have to ask him :) id love to see some pics when you get a chance. he says he gets to splash water at the end, and he is doing a handstand up out of the water to begin the show with - then dives off the sprinboard and 10 mt platform - if that helps at all LOL. He is loving it all:)and says the audiences are fantastic! Its so great to get the live info and all the hints etc - so many people read yourposts and Im sure are all very appreciative of them. I am going to also try and do a live post when i am on there in August - that is if i can stop taking photos and videos long enough to go on the internet!:) thanks again - look forward to more posts from you.
