Typical Wine List

I am sailing on the June 3rd Alaska run aboard Oosterdam. Am debating bringing along my own selection of wines (kind of a geek when it comes to wine). Does anyone know what a typical wine list aboard a HAL ship would look like? i.e. selection, vintages, prices? Doubt that I would be bringing anything that they would have on their list, but think that it is a good idea for me to get an idea of what they have.

I know you can get a pre-order list from Ship Services at HAL.

As far as the regular onboard list, maybe someone else can help you. I don't recall there being one available when I was having Ship Svcs send me every list imaginable last year.

HAL is pushing a lot of Washington state wines.

Talked to a wonderful service rep at HAL the other day. She gave me a PDF of the current wine list.

Let me know if there is any interest from the board to have me post it.

Thanks for the posting, sadly I do not see my favorite Asti. I am still hoping they can tract it down for me for our Ryndam cruise.

Personally I think that it is a decent list. Should match with most cuisine choices.

One item that I am particularly disapointed in is that only the reserve list is vintage specific.

Seeing the list also solidified my plan of attack for this summer's Alaska cruise. I am traveling with nine others and will be bringing along 2-3 cases of personal wine to cover all of our drinking needs in the main dining room.

There are other wines available that are not on the printed list, at least there were on the Ryndam last month. In addition, there is an even better list for the Pinnacle, and you can have them served to you in the main dining room. Look for the afternoon wine tasting in the Pinnacle also. Ask your wine steward about chatting with the head wine steward about all of this. Remember that each of the bottles you bring into the DR will be $15 corkage plus 15% service, but that should be worth it if you have the good stuff.

My understanding is that the $15 corkage fee includes the 15% tip.

Will definitely have to look for the wine tasting on the cruise.

I think that I am going to be alright with wine cost compared to purchasing it from HAL. It is all going to be coming out of my cellar, so it's a "sunk cost" (remind me not to use that term again when talking about a cruise)...

It is stated that wine that has been agitated in any way [such as being on the high seas] should have at least a week to settle down. Also it should not be stored where it is subject to vibration, but, after all its your money. john

MagnumGourmet, thnaks for posting what appears to be, the entire wine list! Although we're not sailing on HAL for another year & change (we're on Oceania, Celebrity, Silversea and Princess next), we're planning on taking HAL to Mexico late in 2007, so we'll be sure to study your list. Thanks again.
