Sandyshore Posted September 28, 2009 #26 Share Posted September 28, 2009 Hmm.....the interlocking paper plates is a very good idea. Someone also mentioned that you can ask someone for a "tray" to carry your food back to your cabin. Now as for taking food from other restaurants if you do not have a "butler"....someone also mentioned they would deliver it to their cabin. Seems sooo unnecessary when you can takeit there yourself. Since they allow you to take food from the buffet....I wonder if this rule for the other restaurants is to "discourage" people, for what ever reason, from doing this but, ....seems to me that they are just starting a new habit of people getting food delivered to their cabins. The locking paper plates we brought were great -- Ziploc I think, and heavyweight enough they didn't crush in our luggage (we didn't have to fly to NY though) and I liked keeping the food covered in our cabin if we didn't eat it right away. Our cabin was also way forward, port side, and it WAS a long walk, so you'll get plenty of steps in! We ate in Cagney's one night and I was so full I couldn't finish my entree (a wonderful filet) and couldn't even think about dessert. Well, our server was just adorable and she insisted on having something sent to our cabin (we were in a balcony, so no butler). Really twisted my arm. ;) And when we got back there after the evening's show, I found a platter with a new filet, mashed potatoes, and for both DH and me, cheesecake. Quite the heavenly midnite snack. :D
Baarb Posted September 28, 2009 #27 Share Posted September 28, 2009 The Gem???? I can honestly say, that, it was not the Dawn..... I got spoiled while on the Dawn........ BUT.... The Gem was very very nice.... We had a great time there too....... Going back on the Dawn at the end of the month.... Secret??? Loved the chairs in the Spinakers Lounge... Just the right size to read a book, or take a nappy....... Love the Dawn....
BarbCT605 Posted September 28, 2009 #28 Share Posted September 28, 2009 Re: Sports bar The Great Outdoors has a flat panel TV that always has a sports channel on. Also, for "big" games, the 2-deck high screen in the atrium will show the game.
KevinsCruising Posted September 29, 2009 #29 Share Posted September 29, 2009 :D So you are saying that the "Blue Lagoon" is more like a sit down then a fast food place? Can't imagine why it matters to them if you take your wings to your room....why should they care? We always took things to our room....if they give me hard time I will just have to bring my own take out containers. Can you take things off of the buffet to take to your room? I know they don't have trays anymore so that makes it more difficult...wonder if that is why they don't have trays? Hmm Invision Salsa on the Dawn.... The Blue Lagoon is RIGHT NEXT TO IT... Looks like Salsa.....sit down all the way. When they told me I couldn't bring the wings back to the room, I ordered them, then once they had the back turned, I was gone with my plate in hand. lol. I felt like I was a criminal  Blue Lagoon definately better on the Dawn! I love taking them to Pearly Kings Pub and watching some sports, eating, cold beer and wings. Hmmmmm Hmmmmm Don't let that put you off though. The Gem is a great ship. Make it a game of how many plates of wings you can get to your room :D On the Dawn this Sunday.... I can taste those wings already !!

LOL Or, I will get them to deliver to our cabin as someone said. We usually always sat and ate them on the Dawn right there at the Blue Lagoon....but a late night snack is always good in your room. Or they could just make it a whole lot easier and put the wings on the room service menu. :D

trish1c Posted September 29, 2009 #32 Share Posted September 29, 2009 I think I remember someone on this thread saying that there are no "sports bars"......not sure if that means no "TV"'s for it. They showed some games on the movie sized screen in the atruim near the Java Cafe; you could sit down below or up in the "balcony" near spanning the Tex/mex / tapas place & thw Blue Lagoon. This screen is soooo huge that they players are lifesized. There is no sports bar per se.
LoisGriffin1 Posted September 29, 2009 #33 Share Posted September 29, 2009 That sounds perfect though for watching the football. There will be plenty of us Europeans who love our football so could be good fun to watch the World Cup on the big screen.

The "football" being discussed here is more likely to be American football...we call your "football" "soccer". We watched NFL playoff games on the big screen in the Gem's atrium. If the Gem is doing European cruises during the World Cup (I guess it is) perhaps they will show some games on the big screen in the atrium.
