NextOne Posted October 28, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2009 We'll be arriving in the late morning in FLL in mid-Nov. for a cruise that leaves the next day. We'd like to see some of the city while we're there. We've already ridden the entire route of the water taxi and eaten at 15th St. Fisheries (which we plan to do again). We're staying at the Renaissance. What are some highlights that we should try to see while we're there? Thanks for your help!

oncruisecontrol Posted October 28, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 28, 2009 You could go to Downtown Ft. Lauderdale for some nightlife if you're not travelling with kids. It's only 2 or 3 miles from the Renaissance (the one on SE 17th St.). If you take a cab, tell the driver you want to go to Downtown Las Olas Blvd. There's a few good places such as YOLO, Samba Room, Big City all within a block or two of each other. NextOne Posted October 29, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted October 29, 2009 Thanks! No kids, just us. Last time we were at the 15th St. Fisheries we were upstairs, right by the window. A gorgeous view of all the water activity! We're planning to relax on the ship, so the pool/beach will wait until then. What can we see during the afternoon? DH isn't much for clubs & night spots. Dinner will most likely be our big night activity!
oncruisecontrol Posted October 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted October 29, 2009 You could go to downtown Las Olas Blvd. during the day for lunch at one of the places I mentioned. There are a few unique boutiques as well as a couple of art galleries along Las Olas (pretty expensive, though). There is an art museum at the corner of Las Olas Blvd. and Andrews Ave. But, I'm not sure what exhibits will be there at the time you'll be in town. There is also the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, but you'd have to go to their website to see if there is anything going on there. The PAC is in the general vicinity of the Las Olas downtown area.
insag Posted October 29, 2009 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2009 THE reason I was asking if you were upstairs last time is they have a great coupon on www.restaurant.com,,, they are out right now but Nov 1st more will be offered
royalcruz Posted October 29, 2009 #7 Share Posted October 29, 2009 After a stroll on Las Olas Blvd, continue your walk west along the river. You will walk past 2 bridges, a park, the Briny Riverfront, some historic bldgs, and finally the performing arts center. Wear really comfortable walking shoes. If the weather isn't nice, you can spend some time at Galleria Mall on Sunrise Blvd (a separate location).

oncruisecontrol Posted November 14, 2009 #11 Share Posted November 14, 2009 Can you get to Las Olas Blvd via the water taxi? We're staying at the Renaissance. Thanks! Yes. If you're staying at the Renaissance on 17th., you can board the water taxi at the 15th St. Fisheries Restaurant dock. Just be sure to ask the water taxi pilot if he is heading toward downtown Las Olas Riverfront. If you don't ask, you may mistakenly board the taxi that is heading north to Oakland Park Blvd.
Salzburg Posted November 14, 2009 #12 Share Posted November 14, 2009 Would you be able to tell me where the closest water taxi is to Hyatt Place in FLL? We would like to walk around downtown Las Olas Blvd. on the 10th of December, the day before our cruise. Thank you. Salzburg

Holly g Posted November 17, 2009 #14 Share Posted November 17, 2009 Royal Cruz We are coming down and staying 6 nights pre cruise in February. The prices at the hotels are really high at the time we are coming down which is 2/9-2/15. We are looking at the Hyatt Regency Bonaventure in Weston. Can you tell me if this is a safe area with things to do nearby? And is it a nice hotel? How far is it from FLL? We are renting a car so transportation is not a problem. Also, could you recommend any hotels in nice areas of Fort Lauderdale that would be good for a 6 night stay? Thanks.

I'll be staying at Hyatt Place also and wonder how far it actually is from the 15th Street dock? oncruisecontrol Posted November 18, 2009 #17 Share Posted November 18, 2009 Can you get a day pass for the water taxi's? How much? In the past they had an all-day pass. I believe they still do, but I can't say for sure without researching it. I will try to find out though.

hpreece Posted November 20, 2009 #20 Share Posted November 20, 2009 Do you guys know the hours that the water taxis run? I once had an experience and was unable to get back to where I needed to be because the taxi quit running after a certain time. -Heather
hallsuk2 Posted November 20, 2009 #21 Share Posted November 20, 2009 hello, used the Water taxi in the last fortnight. $13 all day ticket. H.O.H.O. as much as you like. We also used it at night to get back from the Briny Pub and a meal on Las Olas to beach Place. It was around 11.00P.M. when we left the Briny Pub, Iain
bettyboop16 Posted November 20, 2009 #22 Share Posted November 20, 2009 Hi, You can go to www.watertaxi.com get all the info about stops and prices. If you are staying at the Renaissance or Hyatt 66 Pier it's about a 10 min. walk, you don't have to go to the 15th Street Fisheries.
