Faxing a Wine Order?

Husband and I decided to purchase a few bottles of wine from the NCL web site for in room consumption. When I located the wine list I then thought I could just order it "online". Not the case. They want you to "fax" in your order with all your "credit card" information on the fax. Is it me, or does anyone else think this is not exactly a safe method of ordering? Not particularly happy with not knowing who is on the receiving end of that fax that has all our credit card info. I worked in a call center for a bank and frankly did not trust faxing "personal information" after seeing what goes on. Faxes lay in bins and is available for the entire department to rummage thru as they look for their own faxes etc. It was very unsecured to say the least.

Does anyone know if we can order the same wine when on board, or is the wine on board different selections and prices? If we can order it on board then I think that's the way I want to go with this.

I can't believe in today's computer day and age that NCL's web site is not able to handle "online ordering". It's unbelievable to me. They sure as heck can handle booking a cruise so why not this? Hmm!

We just got off the Pearl on Saturday, the wine selection on board is larger than what is available on line for the fax order. They were also doing a special that if you bought 6-8 bottles of wine off their special sheet that you received 20% off the order. I did fax in an order for the romance package & casino chips which they said they just could not find. We finally got the package honored after going through 4 different people on the ship. Denis, the hotel dir. finally got them to put the romance package through, we gave up on the casino chips. You can wait until you're onboard and you'll be fine with the wine.

Uneamie - I admit, I thought of buying ahead of time but the idea of sending in my credit card numbers in hardcopy form made me a bit nervous too.

That said, I have spent several years in an IT Information Security organization in a Fortune 100 company and I can tell you there are VERY VERY strict laws around the control and safegaurding of payment card (credit/debit card) data. Companies are audited by their payment card providers (i.e. Visa) and assigned risk rankings. The fees they pay to accept payment cards are tied to that risk rating. Also, if a payment card incedent occurs, the offending company can be highly penalized. In theory, it should be safe.

But...I decided to wait until I was onboard. I agree with ABC Cruisers that the selection will be much better - although I wondered if prices were better or worse.

ABC Cruisers - when/where did you see the special on the bulk purchase? I'm interested in that and would like to keep an eye out for it.

Thanks in advance for the tip details!

Thanks....:)

I know I am probably being overly cautious but I also know that there was such a high turn over of employees in our call center and there were several incidents of fraud that went on by a few employees that I generally do not trust this kind of stuff, considering all the identity theft these days. In any event....I think I will pass and order the wine on board.

Thanks....I think that's what I am going to do, just wait till we board. Maybe there will be a special too.

I can not see any advantage of ordering in advance, and giving them your money ahead of time.

Besides, maybe when you cruise, you are less thirsty that you are today (never happened to me, but....)

Wait and buy onboard, when and if you want it.

The prices were the same on the cruise as the pre-buy option, so no advantage to paying prior to the cruise. On our 1st sea day, we were in the atrium and they had a small table set-up right next to the coffee bar for wine orders. The price sheets/wine selections were on the table with a couple of bottles of the wines that were included in the 20% off selections.

Cool, THANKS! I am sometimes a bit oblivious, so will keep an eye out for it.

The only advantage to ordering in advance that I've ever seen is the fun factor of having the wine either in the stateroom waiting when we first enter on embarkation day, next to the chocolate dipped strawberries, or having it arrive later that day. If NCL screws up and I don't get it, well, then I learned a lesson about NCL and I've got my fax confirm in with my cruise doc's, so I'll get it taken off the bill if they mess up. Hope they won't, usually have had great results on DCL and RCI. We're not going to be drinking any volume of wine, so the one particular bottle, something of a specialty item that happens to be a favorite of mine, is something I'm already looking forward to sharing with DW.
