tdtanc Posted March 6, 2010 #26 Share Posted March 6, 2010 Unfortunately already bought the 10am tix. Will see about changing maybe to the 830am bus. Train is more than twice the amount. TD
sddsddean Posted March 7, 2010 #27 Share Posted March 7, 2010 I think DB is giving a worst case scenario. You should have plenty of time. Simon
MrsTW Posted March 7, 2010 #28 Share Posted March 7, 2010 You've left yourself ample time TD. The 10am bus will be fine. ;)

MrsTW Posted March 7, 2010 #30 Share Posted March 7, 2010 National Express run buses from Heathrow to London Victoria! :D Have you checked them out? Lots of ideas here........ http://www.heathrow-airport-guide.co.uk/london.html
tdtanc Posted March 7, 2010 #31 Share Posted March 7, 2010 Will do that now. Can you buy an open ended tix so that you may get on any bus during a specific day based on when your plane arrives. Or is it just as easy to walk right up to the national express line at the airport and buy right there? TD
MrsTW Posted March 7, 2010 #32 Share Posted March 7, 2010 I would just buy on the day. The cost seems to be a standard £5. There are loads of buses throughout the day. ;) I take it you'll be arriving early in the day. It would be hard to book in advance as who knows whether your flight will be early or late and how long it'll take to get through immigration and collect bags etc. Hmm.......won't seem to allow me to give you a link. look at London tool kit for some extra bus info. Or is it just as easy to walk right up to the national express line at the airport and buy right there? TD You should be aware the National Express buses to Victoria do not visit the passenger terminals at Heathrow. For Terminals 1 & 3 its not too bad, about a 10 minute walk. For Terminals 4 and 5 you need to get either the Heathrow Express or Heathrow Connect trains (free of charge) that run every 15 minutes to the central area then its a 10 minute walk. Also these are not dedicated airport buses. National Express are like Greyhound buses in the US that have come from national cities and towns all over England and drop off passengers at Heathrow on their way into London. You take the seats vacated. There is a timetable but don't expect the reality to match the timetable that much. Like most transport in London taking the train/underground is faster than vehicle on most journeys. The Underground runs every 5 minutes from Heathrow and the most you pay is 4.50 GBP to anywhere in Central London.
Giantfan13 Posted March 7, 2010 #34 Share Posted March 7, 2010 The National Express bus knows what they are doing. What time does the bus say you will arrive at Southampton??> They are usually right on time as they have to take traffic into consideration. Unless there is a major road closure, I would also agree you ahve a lot of time, even if slightly delayed for unknown reasons. Unless you are like us and want to be one of the first few to board, taking the 10:00 bus will be fine. Cheers Len
phabric Posted March 7, 2010 #35 Share Posted March 7, 2010 Thanks guys for the encouragement. Was doubting the time.....will stick with it. Anyone know the price of a cab from Heathrow to Victoria Area. Just dont feel like lugging our bags on the tube or train. TD We used www. justairports.com (private car service) to get us from Heathrow to Victoria area hotel. To get a quote, you put in the first 3 letters of the postal code of where you are staying. Depending of the size of car and number of passengers it is 30-34 GBP & cost of parking. They meet you, and drive to hotel without all the hassles. Heathrow is about 1 hour away from Victoria area. We used them last year and will be using them this year. Other people have mentioned www. simplyairports.co.uk.
tdtanc Posted March 8, 2010 #36 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Looking at the postal code for Luna Simone........it says it is SW1V 1bb......what exactly does this mean? Is is SW 1 5(V?).....check out http://www.justairports.com website and booking and see what I mean when it asks you to put in the postal code of where you are going. Thanks TD
MrsTW Posted March 8, 2010 #37 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Just use SW1 This pinpoints the area. The rest of the code pinpoints the street and which part of it. Some buildings have their own code and large streets are split up. ;) http://www.postcode-info.co.uk/sw1-postcode-info.html
Globaliser Posted March 8, 2010 #38 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Looking at the postal code for Luna Simone........it says it is SW1V 1bb......what exactly does this mean? The outbound half of the code ("SW1V") identifies an area. It's part of the SW1 postal district, but some London postal districts have been sub-divided for postcode purposes because there are so many addresses in them. The inbound half of the postcode ("2BB") is progressively more specific: the "2" represents a small area within SW1V, and the two letters get down to the detail of identifying a small number of buildings, often on the same side of the street. A "postman's walk" can be constructed by linking a series of full postcodes. Sometimes, a postcode identifies a single building, or even a single business. That specificity is why a full and accurate postcode is so useful. So you may want to note that it's not 1BB - it's 2BB. The addresses that share this postcode are:- 35 Belgrave Road, London SW1V 2BB 53 Belgrave Road, London SW1V 2BB Central House Hotel, 37-41 Belgrave Road, London SW1V 2BB Hotel Rama, 43 Belgrave Road, London SW1V 2BB Huttons Hotel, 55 Belgrave Road, London SW1V 2BB Lidos Hotel, 45 Belgrave Road, London SW1V 2BB Luna & Simone Hotel, 47-49 Belgrave Road, London SW1V 2BB Victor Hotel, 51 Belgrave Road, London SW1V 2BB And that's it. No other addresses in the UK have that postcode.
