CruisinFromCT Posted January 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2010  Looks like I'm the only one booked on this ship -- will they cancel the cruise, or just give me a heck of an upsel??:D
garycarla Posted January 26, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2010 You did not say which cruise you are booked on, but I am guessing the Jewel, but am guessing Sept 4th. Why would you think they would cancel this cruise? Most ships have been sailing close to full lately.
mbisson Posted January 26, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2010 They'll offer you an upsell, but in order to generate the normal amount of revenue that the ship should get in a week...it won't be cheap at all
CruisinFromCT Posted January 26, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted January 26, 2010 yes, the Sept 4th sailing... I was just wondering if anyone has every experienced a cancellation. maybe they will just do a mad dash of sales during the summer.
garycarla Posted January 26, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 26, 2010 Ever, ever heard of an outright cancel due to slow sales. I would bet they have hundreds of cabins already booked.
CruisinMaterial Posted January 26, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2010 The Jewel is the slowest booking ship that I've been monitoring in the fleet and the prices to sail on her reflect that. I don't know what is going on with it because the Jewel is a very nice ship. Her cheaper prices have led to me making her my home for Spring Break this year! :)
goldmom Posted January 26, 2010 #7 Share Posted January 26, 2010 I don't think it's the Jewel. I think it's the itinerary. It's pretty boring and I don't think it sells as well as other trips. The FL/Bahamas run usually doesn't sell that well until they drop prices closer to sailing. We did it twice and followed the pricing for around 9 months before sailing. That said it usually does sell out closer to the sail date. Either way, enjoy your cruise and hope the "fairy" visits you!
CruisinMaterial Posted January 26, 2010 #8 Share Posted January 26, 2010 I am going in mid-March and it's like Russian Roullette now given where I live and needing to get there. I had to book it now but the ship is still very much empty. 10 categories are still booking with room numbers and five are on guarantees. I am hoping the upgrade fairy shines a good light on me since I might be doing this trip solo and have already paid that lovely surcharge for two people! Oh fairy... where art thou? :D

Thanks! this was my first itinerary and it really wasn't as exciting as Bermuda or the Mediterranean ones that I did...I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for the fairy visit! tinker Posted January 27, 2010 #10 Share Posted January 27, 2010 We are on the first run of that itinerary on 4/24 and it is also very light and the prices remain very low. I have done this FL/Bahama itinerary 3 times before and I agree, it is not the greatest but I continue to book it if I can get a terrific price as such an easy trip for us to sail from NYC. crew mom Posted January 27, 2010 #11 Share Posted January 27, 2010 They have never canceled a cruise due to lack of sales. The ships sail at least 3/4 full every week so not to worry. That is one of the slower weeks. Maybe the upsale fairy will visit.
yoyocruiser Posted January 27, 2010 #12 Share Posted January 27, 2010 The ship is fantastic and the crew is great. That alone is reason to book unless the ports are your most important consideration.
