Destiny dry dock updates?

Has anyone heard how the dry dock of the Destiny is going, or will they wait until the dry dock is complete before they publish anything? Does anyone know if they are doing any "upgrading" while it's in dry dock! We sail May 3rd, our 3rd Carnival cruise and our 6 and 3 year old daughters 1st cruise...we are really excited! :)

Last I heard she was getting her "problem" fixed and a good "sprucing up" which to me means they're putting the entire crew to working cleaning, painting and polishing. I'll try to remember to come back and let you know what she looks like! :)

I was kinda wondering about the ol' gal myself. There's a poster whose boyfriend/spouse works on dry-dock projects who sometimes posts the scoops on here. Maybe she'll pop in.

Oooh hello, I think that's me! :D

I've not heard anything more about Destiny other when she arrived, I'll ask for an update but he probably won't know much as he's been on the Ryndam rather than the Destiny.

Why yes... there you are! Thanks for popping in... it's always interesting to hear the inside scoop you get with the dry-docks. :)

This was not a planned dry dock. Don't expect any real changes or anything that is visible. The myth of sprucing up is just that a myth. The ships are all kept immaculate all of the time anyway.

Not to argue BUT;) we got off the Destiny 1/30 and had talked to our steward quite a bit. She told us on our cruise about the cruises that were being cancelled due to dry dock. We were talking to her about what she was going to do that week, do they get a week off, etc. She said the crew HATED dry dock, that they have to strip the rooms and do a detail clean. She said they work all week but don't get paid extra (I assume she means tips).

We had taken a small fan to use in our room and asked her if she knew someone that wanted it so we didn't have to take it back home. She was THRILLED because she said there is no air-conditioning for them when they are in dry dock. That was very surprising to me. She said it gets very hot, so she joked that everybody would be hanging out in her room now that she had a fan. LOL

I guess we'll find out if it was spruced up because we're going on the two-day Saturday.:D

She's right, the officers quarters and accomodation usually has air con, but most of the other parts of the ship do not. There's also the small matter of only having the toilets 'on' for an hour or so in the morning and again in the evening....it's not the nicest of conditions it has to be said!

They just offered me a great deal to sail on the Destiny on April 24th out of Miami!!! I just booked and and now I read this....you guys are scaring me!! Will I not get to go on my cruise?? They didn't mention anything about dry docking

She's in dry-dock right now getting the much needed repairs to the propulsion system. I'm saying she will be in great shape for your cruise!! If you do a search on here, you'll see that she had major problems, which are now hopefully being rectified. So stop the worries, and get ready for a wonderful cruise!

Just spoke to Carnival earlier today to confirm that the Destiny was going to make it out of dry-dock on time. As of right now, it will sail as scheduled:), but there is still too many days from now until Monday that could change that.

So, everyone, get those bags packed and get ready for a really great vacation. This ship has had a lot of negative publicity lately, so lets hope that is behind Carnival as well.

See you Monday!

Morning All! :D She's back in port and we had very smooth sailing the entire trip and speed wasn't a problem at all! :) It was an interesting cruise lots of "newbies", lots of late nighters and party people. :p Over 3000 people on the ship so it's been a bit crowded but with a lot of families putting 3-4 in a cabin. It reminded me a bit of our first Carnival Cruise back in '94 when it truly was the "party ships". ;) Nassua was nice but windy so a bit cool. And yes the Lido deck food spots do end up w/very long lines...:( But the grill back by the adult pool never had a real long line. WOOHOO we go again today!

We sail on Destiny next week!

I understand the dry docking was to fix the propulsion problem, but I remember someone who had sailed on Destiny recently posting pictures of a door with broken glass in common areas of the ship, and a few other minor problems like that. I wonder if they took care of that while the ship is in dry dock?

We're looking very forward to our cruise! I hope the weather is good in Chicago on 3/3 so we can get out of here on schedule!

Please post when you return and let us know about your cruise... we won't be going till much later in the year - we're so sick of Chicago weather right now.

Good luck with weather next week (I'll think good thoughts for good weather) and enjoy your cruise!

Definitely think good thoughts about the weather. So sick of snow and cold. I'll be so bummed if we can't fly out of here on the 3rd. Really looking forward to an evening in Miami before we sail. This is a girl's cruise. One of my best friends is turning 50. There will be 5 of us, including our daughters who will be on spring break from college.

Just got off of the Destiny today. Seems to be operating pretty smoothly. Missed Half Moon Cay due to adverse weather conditions in the area. Because it is a tender port, safety was a huge factor, so we just had another day at sea, which just meant spending more on drinks and in the casino.

And by the way, watch out. The casino will let you win the first day, but will take it the rest of the week.

Something new offered is the "Behind the Fun" tour, offered on a day at port. It's a very interesting tour that lasts about 2 1/2 hours at a price of $55 per person. Space is extremely limited, only 16 people per tour and only two tours offered. Meet the captain, see the engine room, and other things that make your cruise memorable. All with exclusive access and receive some gifts afterwards. Check it out.

Had a beautiful day in Grand Turk and Nassau. Five ships in port yesterday in Nassau. Carnival Destiny & Sensation, Disney Wonder, MSC Posena?, and RCCL Oasis of the Seas.

Shows are more for adults and late at night. Not exactly made for children's viewing due to the clothing worn. Camp Carnival was not a favorite for our kids, but maybe be better for yours.

Good week.
