We're looking for a nice place to stay after our Oct cruise. We'd like to stay on the beach and would prefer to keep it under $200. Please post any suggestions...pro and con.

Thanks!

Sally

go to the port of call section under P.R.- lots of postings about hotels. We were recently there and I thought the Hilton certainly had a pretty site. We stayed at the comfort Inn- perfectly servicable but not on the beach (5 min walk). Fine for a quick over night though.

We are going to do one night precruise at the height of the season, President's week, at the Wyndham Condado. We got a AAA rate of 170.00 with a city view. We figured we would not spend the extra for a view since we would not be in the room much. But considering that it's for Feb. vacation week, we thought that was a great price.

Actually, I've done quite a bit of research on this subject and I'm more confused than ever! I've read the posts on the Ports board, the bidding for travel site, and trip advisor.com. There seems to be a big difference of opinion on the San Juan hotels.

Lv2cruz80, have you stayed at the Wyndham Condado Plaza? It's coming up frequently on Priceline and I'd like to feel comfortable about booking it but it's been getting LOTS of negative reviews on the Bidding For Travel site.

We were in San Juan (for the first time) for a pre-cruise night last month. We stayed in the Wyndham El San Juan on the beach in Isla Verde. The beach, pool, and lobby areas were all incredibly beautiful. The service was excellent. The room was the pitts! We want to try something different this time but there doesn't seem to be a clear favorite anywhere! We don't want to get stuck in a dump!

Does anyone have any experience with the Courtyard (by Marriott) Isla Verde Beach Resort? The Intercontinental Hotel? How about the Caribe Hilton? Thanks again!

For a little night life Isla Verde hotels are all lively, we were at the Intercontinental in July (through Hotwire) and it was nice. In Dec. we were at the Condado Mariott Stellaris and it too was lovely, but nothing much around. The Wyndam Old San Juan is nice and the Hilton is a hit or miss on the rooms.

On either side of the Wyndham you stayed at are the Intercontinental (formally the San Juan Grand) and the El San Juan. Both are very nice properties, and to book directly in October you MAY not top your $200 limit.

sgrissom-

No, we have not stayed at the Wyndham Condado but it was recommended by our travel agent. He actually told us to book it ourselves,as he felt he would not be able to get a better price for us. (he's been great with the cruise prices though). We just went on the Wyndham site itself and booked. If you follow through with the options, you come up with AAA rates, AARP rates, plus a couple of others.

At the moment, we are holding a double booking: the Condado Wyndham and the Courtyard Marriott. I am leaning toward the Courtyard because of the beach. The reviews I have read seem to be consistently better than those of the Wyndham. The only negative is the noise from the airport...which I guess could be annoying.

We just returned from San Juan and stayed at the Embassy Suites. Hotel was a five minute ride from the airport. Hotel and room were very nice. In-room safe a plus with us. Lovely pool, complementary cooked-to-order breakfast and social hour. Outback Steakhouse located inside hotel was nice for dinner. Regular resturant inside hotel was fair. Small casino located on first floor as well as gift shop. Lots of fast food options a short distance from hotel. If we ever return to San Juan we will definitely stay there again.
