I read on John Heald' s Facebook today that they have extended the Cheers Bar Program to the Fantasy. If anyone on here drink a lot of alcohol on their cruises then you might want to look into this.

Is this only available once onboard? I guess what I am asking is can you purchase it prior to boarding, like an "activity"?

Joan, Yes I've read all those posts too:) I preliminary booked quality inn & suites mt. pleasant w/ shuttle, hot breakfast $129. My 21 yr old niece surprised me and may come w/ her boyfriend. I said they could stay with us-in the hotel! not our stateroom:eek: So I may find a better deal. Hotel said it would $190 for 2 more adults. We'll see if they really book it 1st.

I have to call the Hampton and see if I can switch to the cruise parking and add two people w/o it costing a bunch more. I try to stay at hotels where I'll earn some points - mostly Holiday Inn, Hilton & Marriott properties which is why I booked the Hampton.

Bob - there's a big Cheers thread that should be close to the top of the board since it seems to be a popular topic. Not for me, thanks. I do like my alcoholic beverages but I simply cannot drink all day and especially not in the hot sun. It gives me migraines and that is not how I want to spend my cruise. I'll just stick to my wine package and occasional bucket-o-beer.

More curious than anything, I doubt I could do 5 days of that! If you could buy it for one day maybe, course I would be under the weather the next day so I'm not sure it would be worth it. I've got a bottle of Vodka and the beer cooler package being delivered to the room and that will be a good starter. Also everyone in the cabin has to purchase it, 30 drinks a day (45 for your group) is a WHOLE lotta drinks!

Rdh rules, If you have alittle time , Drive just a tinsey ways down Bay street and yall be in downtown Charleston, there should be paid parking spots around the market. Drive to the end of Bay Street, the parking around the park area is free. You can walk and see some of the great homes from there.

There are quite a few parking garages off East Bay Street. You can also park on the street (meters). If you have a handicap placard, parking is free at both places (garages and meters). The battery is a great place to sit and relax. It's at the end of East Bay Street. Parking down there is free but is very limited.

If you can "hold off" buying any drinks program {Soda or booze} until we are "at sea", which means that the casino is open, you will save the 8.50% Charleston sales tax, which is automatically added to your order when we are in port there or even still after muster drill when we are still in their harbor.

I've seen families signing up the six kiddies for the soda program and getting the fancy Carnival cups for all.

PattheCMA hates it when I try to help then and tell them to "come back tomorrow" and save some bucks. Also families with kids, you don't need the fancy Carnival cup, they will put a small sticker on your sign and sail card that signifies you are on the soda program, so go to ___-mart now and get a nice inexpensive cooler cup with a lid and ask the bartenders to put ice inside before you get your soda! :D

Mainly have a great time. My wife and I did the chef's table several cruises ago and really liked it except for the 4-5 hour timeframe. Wife was less interested than myself. It was great once, not sure we would do it again.

Have a wonderful cruise and if anything is different/strange we will report back.

I've never done the Chef's Table. I keep thinking I will, but I just have a hard time spending so much money for a meal when I'm (usually) perfectly happy with my MDR dinners. I don't even eat at the Steakhouses on ships that have them. Did it on my first Glory cruise, and it was wonderful, but I can spend that money on so many other things. Or just not spend it and put it toward the next cruise. ;)

Let's just hope the Atlantic remains pretty inactive for another couple of months. I don't check the weather because I figure I'm going anyway and I don't want to know if there's a tropical storm brewing.

Knew nothing about Sandy heading our way last October until someone mentioned on these boards and I foolishly read the thread a couple of hours before I boarded. And then I spent most of Leg 1 worrying about whether Leg 2 might be cancelled. :(

Enjoy your time at the Chef's Table. Your chef will be Chef Russel (see photo in sig). We've done CT with him 3 times when he was on the Imagination and will do it again in January on the Fantasy. He's a delightful person, very interesting. Please tell him hello from Susan and Brian!

Will Do! Thanks. My husband loves all those cooking contest shows like chopped on Food network and master chef. Figured since we're only spending $70 on excursions, we would splurge:D

The farthest to the stern I've been on this class ship is in May when I had E183, a 1A cabin.

It was very rough the first night. I got up at one point and folded up every piece of paper that had been in the cabin and shoved them around the bunk because it was squeaking and rattling. And then I'd wake up and hear my bottle of wine sliding back and forth across the desk.

Several piles-o-puke on the staircase the next morning. Other nights, it was fine. Yes, you do get quite a lot of vibration when they're docking and the thrusters are going full blast.

But I prefer aft to forward, although I have nothing against those cabins, either.

This will be my 9th cabin on a Fantasy class. I've pretty much stayed all over (in IS and OV - no balcony/suite for me on these ships).

And no Cheers for me! There's no way I can drink that much daily. I do not like the sweet foo-foo drinks. And I cannot sit in the sun and drink all day. I'm pretty much a wine or beer drinker (except for the freebies at the PG party). I just cannot drink enough daily (especially considering I'd be off the ship on port days) to justify the cost. I would end up consuming way too much alcohol thinking I had to drink xx drinks daily to come out ahead (and I just don't think that would be wise).

Besides, I actually want to remember my cruise! :p

Just booked for Thanksgiving week. Anyone with experience on a holiday cruise? Anyone ever book an ocean view room at BACK of ship on M deck? Better? Worse?

We did Thanksgiving in 2010 on the Fantasy. Lots and LOTS of kids, but we had a marvelous time. I was in cabin M267 last September and enjoyed it very much. Not far at all from the elevators up to the Lido. Unfortunately my husband prefers forward cabins. Have a great trip!

I had U-239 on one of our cruises which was an aft facing oceanview. The room itself was awkward with a support pole right behind the door so it wouldn't open all the way. The movement was more than I have ever felt. We typically do portholes at the front. The movement was more of a feeling of pressure straight down. Hard to describe though. While I wouldn't turn it down if I had to book one again, I would much prefer my porthole or midship better. It was also really loud pulling into port. You can hear the hydraulics and banging of metal louder here than any other cabin I have had.

If you look next year there are some sailing where the Fantasy goes to Little Stirrup Cay on it's 5 night cruise.

I apologize. My question was unclear. I mean CHARLESTON port - you know, the one with all the controversy.

Ah,

Well there is going to be a hearing about the pilings for the new port. Both sides have agreed to let a judge decide without a trail/etc. It still has one side wanting to stop any cruise ships from homeporting here.... Now having huge container ships in every few hours is no problem. Pretty lame but they will get their time in court. I sure wish they could just go ahead and start the new terminal.
