Carnival Fantasy Review & Pics/ June 5th, 2010 Sailing

Recommended Posts

I would love to see the Fun Times as well.

What kind of lock is on the safe in the room?

We had the push button kind in our room. We punched in a 4 digit code and put our valuables inside. When we needed to retrieve them we just punched in the 4 digit code again and voila'...it opened. We of course did a dummy test with something that wasnt important.

Fun Times coming up....after the scanner hog leaves.

Thanks for continuing to add to this thread. Love your lists. I make lists constantly, I already have made a list and edited for packing. And I don't leave for 3 months.

I know you said that you missed a few meals in the MDR, but I was wondering what night was the second elegant night. I'll be on the same 6 day cruise so I assume the dress up nights are the same.

Thanks again.

I just consulted with the Fun Times and they say that the second elegant night was the night after the first elegant night. Hmmm. That seems odd. So, on our sailing it was Elegant on 1st sea day and 1st port day (Key West). All the rest were Cruise Casual.

Sorry I havent uploaded those Fun Times yet. Work keeps getting in the way.

I want to say thanks for a great review and especially for the pictures. My wife and I leave on the Fantasy Jan. 22nd 2011 from Charleston. And you won't believe but the room we have booked is U15 the same room you were in. I noticed the room number on the picture of the past guest party invite. We are going to exact same ports as well. This will be our 2nd cruise with Carnival and overall. I have struggle to find good pics of the ship and having our actual room was a great bonus in finding this thread. Did you have any positive or negatives about that particular room?

That is so cool that you will have our room! We miss it so much. :(

Lets see...Positives:

  • Close to stairwell and only a few floors up to lido and everything else.
  • Both of us were able to sit in the porthole at the same time
  • Plenty of room
  • We were able to move the bed from one wall to below the window where we wanted. Your steward could do this for you but we didnt want to bother him with something we could do on our own.
  • Our room steward was spot on!
  • The room is far to the front so there isnt much traffic up there at all.
  • We did notice some motion up there but that is one of our favorite parts of cruising.

Negatives:

  • The walls are paper thin. It didnt really bother us because when we did hear people it was when we had just stopped in for a moment during the day and around the time you would be getting ready for dinner. Beware your own noise levels if the...um...mood strikes you. :D
  • No sofa in this room. Only a chair. We didnt really miss it that much but when you have new friends visit your room and they have no where to sit its kinda awkward letting them sit on your bed.
  • Here again, this didnt bother us but might bother some. In heavier seas you will notice a boom every once in awhile on the bow of the ship. We thought it was cool

All in all, we arent really bothered by anything at all on a cruise that some people may feel as a deal breaker. Just go with an open mind. And if you go to the lido bar on the smoking side...tell Ramona and Heavy D hi from us! Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Great review!!! It took me almost 4 hours to read it all so I can only imagine how long it took you to write. You had me laughing out loud. You guys sound just like me and hubby on our cruises. I did the same thing with the journal - kept up with it pretty good at the beginning and then forgot all about it. Thank goodness for digital cameras with dates!! We took a 9-day in 2008 and I STILL haven't finished my journal.

I was curious how much your final bill was. I guess $600 wasn't that bad. And you've proven even if you "smuggle" the cruise lines don't hurt. Did you bring any of the glasses home? I was trying to keep up with how many you had by the pics and was picturing you getting them all in your suitcases. Oh - that might be a good pointer for people. Remember to leave room in your luggage for souvenirs!!

I hope you find a sugar daddy so we can all enjoy your next review. Maybe Carnival will give you that cruise in your dream for writing such a wonderful account of your trip on one of their Fun Ships????? :D

Thanks for sharing in our fun! It did take a while to write but I think its cool to be able to go back and look at our cruise in this type of format and to help anyone out with their future cruise.

Lets see...money-wise we put down a total of $600.00 and got back a check on the last night for $19.00 and some change. Thats about what we average. We brought all of the glasses home but I found room by bringing a laundry sack and shoved all the dirty clothes in it. When I put it in the suitcase it afforded enough room to line around it with DOD glasses. In total there were 4. I got refills some of the time for I think a buck cheaper. :)

The Andrew wants me to find a way to just get paid in cruises if I promise to review each one. I keep telling him I am not the only one who reviews on here and I am sure that is everyones wish. I guess I can dream huh? Its looking like our next cruise wont be until September next year. Bummer. I have never missed being on a cruise as much as I have missed it this time. I guess its because I have to see it in port on my way to work each week. :(

LOL I keep coming back to your post to figure out the answers to all my questions. I got a couple more for you if you don’t mind......First, when you were on Free port, was it an excursion that yall did, and if not then how did you find your way around and down to the beach on your own? (were there signs pointing you in the right direction, were there fees to use that beach?) I do not want to spend a ton of money thru carnival just for them to take me shopping and then to a public beach, especially when that sounds exactly what yall did for pretty cheap on your own. Second, we are considering doing the Blue water/catamaran snorkel on Nassau, did you like it, would you recommend it? Hubby cannot swim very well, but I have been told that everyone wears a life vest so I am hoping he will be all right. Again thanks so much for your help : ) P.S. this probably will not be the last time I email ya since we don’t sail until Sept. 24...haha

I love answering the questions so keep em coming. This site is where I learned all my tricks and I enjoy sharing!

Freeport: We did not book an excursion. When you come off the ship and walk through the gates you will see a covered shed which is where you will find shuttles to take to Our Lucaya. It was only $5.00 for the 20 minute ride to the beach. And $5.00 to go back (per person). You will share the shuttle with some other folks and they drop you off right at the casino. We basically crossed the street and kept walking to the backside of the casino and straight ahead to the beach. When on the beach we walked to the right and claimed our spot. No charge for that beach unless you grab a chair and I think they charge $10.00 a chair. We just sat on our towels. There are signs directing you to different locations of interest. By the way there are several shopping areas when you cross the street from the casino.

Nassau: The Andrew is a great swimmer. Me...not so much. I kept my life jacket fully inflated the whole time. You can either deflate it or inflate to a level that is comfortable for you but they definitely make you wear it. It was a bit overwhelming at first but once I saw the amazing things going on under the water I didnt want to come back in. This excursion, IMHO was well worth the money and so much fun. I cant wait to snorkel again and if we go back to Nassau we would probably do it again or at least another location. Maybe in Freeport next time.

Keep on asking the questions. I am happy to help. :D

Thank you for your review! DH and I are also on this cruise in Sept. I like the way you set up your bed. We were on another Fantasy class ship and the steward put the beds together so one long edge was against the wall. We ended up putting them back the way they were originally because one of us had to climb over the other if we wanted to get out, now I know we can do it differently!

I've spent most of the day reading your review when I should be doing homework! I'm finally working on my college degree after being out of high school for over 30 years!

Congratulations on getting your degree! I have always wanted to go to college but never was able to. Now that the kids are getting older that may be something I look at closer.

We found out the trick about moving the bed on our 2007 Triumph cruise. We had an oceanview cabin on that cruise. After a couple of days we decided we wanted to wake up and see the sky when we woke up. I am so glad we did it first thing and especially glad I had it there when I fell out of the porthole. Just make sure to be curteous and put it back on the last night for your steward.

Good luck on getting your degree and I hope I didnt keep you away from your homework for too long. :p

LOL!!! I'm addicted. GOT TO GET TO HOMEWORK!!! I have 2 papers due this week, an exam in American History, and a distance class for Western Civ. I need to get cracking on! I got distracted by CruiseCritic and the thought of the Spirit to Hawaii in 2 year!!! OK, I'm really going to get off CC and get to work! BTW, thanks! I probably wouldn't have bothered finishing my Assoc. degree but I got a job at the local community college and they pay for 6 credits per semester. I was thinking of going for a bachelor's degree but they don't cover that unless I have a full-time position-which isn't likely due to budget cuts!

I plan on taking more classes but "fun" ones for a while! (Spanish, Drawing, PE-pilates, yoga, weight training, etc...)

I will be on the 7-day Fantasy cruise in September, but am very interested in the Fun Times. I'm sure there will be similarities and can get a good idea of what to expect. Thanks again for a tremendous review and info! :)

There's a 7 day posted. Can't remember who. Somebody help Me! :)

I get back from lunch around 2pm so I am hopeful that I should have them up by 4pm. That, of course, is leaving room for technical difficulties which seem to plague my every move!
