Are there any FREE beaches in Nassau?

There's a free beach right next to Atlantis. It shares the same beach and you can rent umbrellas and lounge chairs for an extra cost. When you get to the port just ask a cab driver for the free beach by the atlantis and they will take you. I was there last year and I think the cab ride was only 7 dollars. I think theres a Carnival excursion that takes you to this beach but its $30 per person. Taking the cab there saves you a lot of money!

Just got back last week. When you get off the boat walk behind it to the colored buildings. They will have lots of taxi options. We took the water taxi for $3 each way. What they didn't tell us is that we had a lonnnnng walk to the beach after we go off the taxi. For $1 more there are taxis that take you straight from that building to the beach. It's up to you as to wether you want to go straight there on land or take the water taxi for the fun ride. We made the best of it but we had some older people that had to keep stopping for breaks during the walk. It was really hot over there.

We went to Cabbage Beach and had a blast. It was free but it cost us to rent the chairs/umbrellas. Remember to bargain them down on the price. We paid $15 for two chairs and $20 for an umbrella only to watch someone else get it for less.

Be careful b/c the tides will really pull you on those beaches. There is a public beach in walking distance from the pier but nowhere near as nice.

We went to Nassau last year. Took the Government Tour that was offered by one of the vendors on the port dock. I LOVED the Govt tour...it was $25 a person and it took you all over the island finishing off with the Atlantis. You had a choice of returning to the dock with the tour operator, staying at the Atlantis or he would drop you off at the beach. I HIGHLY recommend "Dr Peppa".

The beach was FREE. I thought it was very nice...the water was extremely clear. If you stayed at the Atlantis or the Beach you had to take a cab back. I don't know how much the cab from the Atlantis was but...the cab back from the beach was $4 a person. And there are a GREAT number of cabs that go directly from the beach to the dock.

At the dock there were a number of transportation options. Starting between $4 and $10 a person each way.

Cable beach is also free and from what I hear, has calmer water than Cabbage. If you just want to lay on the beach, Cabbage is great. The water can be too rough to even stand in up to your ankles. There is also Junkanoo, (haven't been to but hear it's nice), which is closer to the port. It has more facilities (as in bathrooms) than Cabbage.

Yes, there are taxis readily available. Just allow plenty of time to get back to the port.

Like the other said, you can get alot of info on the Bahamas board as well.

Go to the Atlantis and get off at the Beach Tower entrance. Walk to the right and find a path that leads to the beach, between the Beach Tower and the Rui hotel. Turn left when reaching the sand and head towards the Beach Tower. The beach there is nice, has rental chairs and umbrellas.

For the daring, go up the stairs leading to the Beach Tower Atlantis property and there are restrooms, a snack bar and a large swimming pool and the the lazy river. This requires a wristband as is Atlantis property, but the security is more lax at that end of the resort and they may appreciate your money for food or the Casino and shops which are reachable from there and open to all.

Why is it called the Government Tour, and what else did you see? What type of vehicle were you in. Does the tour include anything strenuous? My parents are elderly.
