mom4travel Posted September 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2010 Hi all you experts on the Bahamas! Our Bermuda cruise has been diverted to Nassau for next Monday/Tuesday. I have done ALL my research for months now on what to do/where to go in Bermuda and now we are leaving tomorrow and I am having to switch gears! I know all the topics I need have been discussed on this board . . but, can someone give me a crash course on the best parts of Nassau -- what to do, public beaches/snorkeling areas, transportation. . . . and where in Nassau does the ship dock (Royal Caribbean). Thanks for any information/help anyone can give - -fast!!!

mom4travel Posted September 16, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted September 16, 2010 Basically 2 words!! Hurricane Igor! We are scheduled to leave Baltimore, Sept. 18 on the Enchantment -- and were to be in Bermuda on 20th and 21st. Now, we will go to Nassau on those days. I was disappointed to learn we would not be going to Bermuda . . .but, at least we are still going to a warm destination (vs. New England/Canda)! AND, at least I will still be on a cruise ship! mom4travel Posted September 16, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted September 16, 2010 Hi- How long will you be in Nassau and what kinds of excursions do you like? There are many choices of activities in Nassau. Basically just 24 hours! We arrive at noon on Monday and leave at noon on Tuesday. Which doesn't give alot of day light time. Mainly interested in beach/water activities. But, also later that evening anything to do close by the ship??? I guess I should add -- safe, to do around the ship?? :)

cruiseapril Posted September 17, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 17, 2010 Hi- Many threads here have mentioned The Sheraton at Cable Beach and the British Colonial Hilton right near the port. The Sheraton is about 5 miles from port and a $5 van cab ride. If the weather is hot- 3 or 4 hours there will be plenty. Nice beach, good pools, and all amenities. If the weather is overcast, try the Hilton. You can just walk over and check it out and have tea there- it is a beautiful building. Some people take a cab over to Atlantis just to see the lobby and casino and walk around Marina Village. Have a good cruise and let us know what you did in Nassau. jensambo Posted September 17, 2010 #11 Share Posted September 17, 2010 We decided to go to Atlantis. Beach and pools by day and casino at night.
scubagirrl Posted September 17, 2010 #12 Share Posted September 17, 2010 We decided to go to Atlantis. Beach and pools by day and casino at night. Don't forget, the beaches and pools close early in the fall and winter.. it's getting dark early. You'll need an all access pass for the pools ($110 from atlantis).. which included the waterpark.. which opens at 10am and closes at 5pm.
