Pacific Princess activities onboard?

Since this ship is so small, are the activities on ship pretty much the same as the big ships such as Sapphire? If not, what types of activities are there? Does the spa offer the same things on a smaller scale?

Reason I ask is that we plan to do the Holyland cruise in a couple of years (I know, that's a long way off), and maybe bring our son who will be around 15/16 by then.

Also, my sister spoke to someone who just came off a 14 day Med cruise on another cruiseline, don't know which. The person said after a few days on board they wanted to go home as there was "nothing to do" on the ship. My sister wasn't able to get much info since they were in a meeting, but the person said that the cruise mentioned being pampered in the spa except "you had to pamper yourself", whatever that meant. My sister was surprised and told this woman that it wasn't at all like that on our Princess cruise.

I was on the Royal (soon to be transferred to P and O) which is very similar to the Pacific Princess. She is a lovely intimate ship but there aren't as many activities as on the larger Emerald, Diamond etc. If you were going to the Caribbean I might be concerned but you will be very busy with the ports. We are actually planning the Holy Land Cruise ourselves for 2012. Rather than list the activities what are you looking for?

I have to be honest, on these smaller ships, a teen has very little to do. There is only one small pool, no kids/teen center at all onboard. It would probably be the last ship I would consider taking a teen on. The only thing that might save you is that I think you are considering a very port intensive cruise. But these smaller ships just were not built with kids or teens in mind. Just my honest opinon, take it or leave it. ;)

it really depends on your son and his interests. When our youngest daughter traveled with us (at around 16) she played the trivia games with our team (which there were a lot of, that is trivia - even more on the small ships) and was proud of the fact that she could get all the "young questions" when no one else could. She would also go to the pool and hot tub with us. Rest of the time, she exercised, read, and chilled out. She liked it, however I know at least one of my sons would have been climbing the walls.

There are activities and entertainment on the small ship, just not as many competing activities at the same time. For example, there will be a main show in the Princess theater in the evening, but not a competing show in another location.

As another posted, do not expect kid's club activities on this voyage. Hopefully your son will greatly enjoy all the ports on the cruise and will participate in activities he is interested in on board.

Yes, I figured that a ship this small would not have many activities as the big ships. Our son generally likes video type games but not trivia. To be honest, on our last Alaska trip he did not join the teen club and instead spent a lot of time playing his PSP or watching TV when he wasn't with us. We still have time to decide.

I also wanted to make my sister aware that this ship will have a lot less to do than Sapphire did.

Thank you all! :)

We were on the Pacific this summer and were surprised by the amount of children on board. The crew organised some activities for the children as there were a lot of them. The teens seemed to congregate around the pool deck in the evenings and there was entertainment in the Pacific lounge early in the evening for them.

This was during School vacation, so obviously if you are looking at doing the cruise during late July/August you will find more activities on board than maybe other times of the year.

Some evenings there was a film on in the main lounge, but there wasn't a lot of adult evening entertainment, we had 3 entertainers for the entire cruise plus the princess dancers and singers. There was a singer in the Casino lounge and band in the Pacific Lounge

Babs

Crown Princess

Navigator of the Seas

Emerald Princess

Grand Princess

We did the Holy Land itinerary a few years ago. Our went from Athens to Venice with two day stops in Israel and Egypt. The touring was so intense it really didn't matter to us what activities were offered in the evening as we pretty much were back in the cabin between 9 and 10 PM getting ready for the next day (and we did the overnights off the ship too). I would take a teen on this cruise only if they were fascinated with history, archeology or religion. I think it very much depends on the individual teen whether this would be a hit or a miss.
