Westerdam VF 5060 Balcony

I was just reading on a thread about 5060 balcony being right above the lifeboats. How much obstruction of vision does this cause? Is it a matter or concern? I am assuming if you look down, of course you can see them, but are they a big deal for visibility?

I have never been on the Westerdam, but we were recently on the Noordam VF 5128.

We could see the life boats and the light fixtures. It doesn't "block" your view, but you can definitely see them. I had never experienced that before on prior cruises on Princess, so it was a little disappointing, but it certainly did not ruin my cruise.

Check the sticky that Joanie has at the top, she has collected lots of great pictures.

I was in 5054 on the Oosterdam (sister ship to Westerdam) 3rd staterooms forward from 5060 (where the man is standing at the verandah in the photo) and can show you how the view straight out will not be affected. As you already know, looking down is another matter:)

Here are a couple of views from Noordam 5128 (thank you bobalink!) http://joanjett2000.topcities.com/HAL/Noordam/VF-5128_bobalink-2.jpg

We were on the Westerdam last October on deck 5 (cabin 5049). The lifeboats were just below us but when they are stowed they are "inside" the ship, meaning that if you were to walk on the Promenade Deck they would be right over your head. You will have an unrestricted view right down to the water.

Not true. The link Joanie posted shows them in their cruising position.

Deck 5 VE and VF can not view "right down to the water". The reason that you could is that VC5049 is not above any lifeboat.

Thanks for the photo Joanie we have the same type of room booked for Jan 27 on Zuiderdam - for us the lifeboats are a positive - I am afraid of heights and would not have been at All comfortable looking straight down on water - hubby has his own concerns so we were thrilled to pick this particular room - since I am already challenging myself by flying to ft lauderdale and doing the tram over the rainforest in costa rica I needed to feel "safe" on the ship and for me anything over about 4 feet is terrifying lol - sooooo looking forward to our cruise

I have more photos that show exactly what it looks like from the verhanda....I'll send them to Joanie and perhaps she can pass them along. For some reason I'm not able to post them directly to the board.

I wondered if the boats would obstruct our vision...I can honestly say we had no issue with them at all. When you are sitting on your veranda you aren't looking directly down anyway so they do not affect anything. When you are standing you have a view of everything except perhaps watching people walk by on the deck below, and really I wasn't there to people watch, so did not mind missing that view! I would rebook the same room if I had the chance...we loved it.
