Activities on Celebrity Equinox

My husband and I are booked for a Feb 7 2011 cruise aboard the Equinox. We have never sailed with Celebrity and I am curious about the onboard activities on the At Sea days. We have seen way too many hairy chest competitions, Newlywed games, sports trivia games, etc. on board Carnival and RCCL ships. I am hoping to see something different on this ship. I've heard about the glass blowing and will definitely attend that, but what else is available?

Celebrity is a bit more laid back than its sister line, RCI, but there are still plenty of acitivites. I really enjoyed the glass blowing - definitely check that out. On sea days there are often two shows. They have some of the activities you mentioned you did not like (i.e. a Newlywed type game and trivia) but all sorts of other types as well. They generally have at least one guest lecturer aboard who presents on whatever topic of expertise they have. They usually offer dance lessons. Language lessons if visitting a port where English is not the primary language. Wine or martini type seminars/tastings (these generally have a charge). A cook off between two of their chefs (with audience participation). Comedy shows. Lawn games such as bocce, baggo, putting tournaments etc.

There is also plenty to do aside from the organized activities such as casino, movies, napping, eating, listening to music, drinking, jogging, working out, spa treatment, reading, crossword puzzles, meeting new friends etc.

How do we find out what is available on a specific cruise? We are on the Millennium in Nov. I haven't seen anywhere on the Celebrity website that lists activities.

You will get a newspaper delivered to your stateroom every evening that your attendant will leave when they do turndown service. It will list the next day's events and highlights as well as info about your port (if you are at port that day). Sometimes people save these newsletters, scan them, and post links to them. If you do a search here on Cruise Critic you may be able to find some recent schedules for Millennium; this will give you a good idea of the types of activities on your sailing, but it still may not be exact - especially if your itinerary is different.

The Glass shows are great~please get there early though. The seating

fills up bigtime and so I definitely suggest getting there a good 1/2 hour

before it starts. I am only 1 person and got there about 10 mintues

early and it was packed. I stood for 1/2 the show and then left. It is

a 2 hour event and I got tired of standing.

We atttended two series of enrichment lectures on our Feb. Equinox cruise. They were 4-5 lectures each. The first was on DNA as it relates to crime investigation, the second was on weather-specifically weather at sea. Both series were extrememly well done and it was SRO by the end of the series. We are on the Millennium in December and are hoping that they have enrichment lectures and that the speakers and the presentations are of the same high caliber.

Gonzo70 did a great job explaining the activities onboard. I'll toss in another enthusiastic vote for the Hot Glass show. Fascinating to watch, and different every time. Get there early for a decent seat!

I have some of the Celebrity Today newsletters on my cruising blog (link below). They list lots of the activities on Solstice.

We took an Italian language class (through Rosetta Stone) that was really fun. We also did a bridge tour and a Galley tour. They have quite a few fitness/health related activities. We also attended a cooking demonstration and a cooking competition between two chefs. There is a beautiful brunch that is offered once per cruise too.

I believe they offer computer classes and usually have arranged trivia and card groups. It's nice to read by the pool or listen to music, and we also used the sauna quite a bit. I think you'll be surprised by how much there is to do! Not the least of which is eating tons of great food ;)

We signed up for the CC party, but we are doing the Panama Canal excursion... the one where you go through a couple of the locks on a ferry. Hubby wanted to do a cruise through the canal, but after looking at all the options, this cruise seemed better suited to what he wanted to experience. I think the excursion will allow us to see all the canal we want to see.

Thanks so much for posting the daily newspapers from the Soltice. And I also enjoyed the other parts of your blog. One question though. I notice on the newspapers that a fee is required to participate in several of the activities. How much do they usually charge for these?
