Nachi cocum/conzumel safe????

I plan on staying on the ship in any mexican port. It may be safe and it may not be. I have read a lot of warning on cozumel as to rip-offs that merchants and people in the tourist industry do. Too , I am told there is a growing industry of planting drugs on you where you have to buy your way out with the "authorities". Mexico has laws the reverse of the US.. where you are assumed guilty rather than innocent. Not my idea of a good thing and open to all soets of abuse.

I lived very near mexico for many years and I guess I have seen things go from bad to worse... My wife and I just decided not to risk it.

Some will say their is just as much crime in any US city.... I dont think so.... More people murdered in Mexico than have beeb killed in Iraq and Afganistan... its a war.

and as a "rich/wealthy" gringo you would be a mark to anyone and there for the day... even better because they know you cant get back at them.

No, I dont beleive the benifits outweigh the risk....to me of going anywhere in mexico in this climate of out of control violence and crime. But hey you do what you want. I recall Dirty Harry..saying... "are you feeling luckey"......" well are y'a"

There has been so much talk lately about how unsafe Mexico is - does anyone have and feedback about whether or not it's safe to still go to Nachi and around Cozumel?

I'm posting this on the Cozuel thread as well.

Thanks!!

I spent the day at Nachi on Oct.22/10. It was amazing! I had no problem and I felt totally safe. Really...I think any American or Canadian city is just as dangerous.

I love Cozumel. I was there last November and spent a few hours just meandering through the town. I walked by myself and nobody bothered me and I never felt unsafe. I think if you were to go to Nachi with a ship's excursion, you would be safe. I have never heard of anything bad happening to tourists in Cozumel.

People donot realise Mexico is a large and beautiful country. It is unsafe near The borderareas are unsafe, but places whre cruise-ships dock like Cozumel and many others are safe for tourists.

Cruisehips donot take risks.

It is like if something happens in Seattle it doesnot mean it is unsafe in San Francisco...

Very safe and secure property, clean and the food was very tasty. Be warned the Coronas were a higher alcohol content and boy did I feel it after a few... We had our own waiter who contacted a taxi-cab for us when we were ready to leave, then personally escorted us to the pick-up area, nice touch! The area is a little remote from the port and the taxi ride was about $20 each way with tip. Overall it was a great day and I would do it over again.

The ship doesn't offer this excursion...and if they did I'm sure it would be double the price.
