Why so much in Taxes - NYC 1 CTN

Was looking into a Cruise to Nowhere out of New York on the Gem this Jan and Feb. They have some great rates on an inside cabin, $99pp (no need for anything more on a 1 night). When I go to check out there is $161.84 in port fees and taxes. Any idea why it is so outrageous? That is crazy.

 

That is a lot, but probably the port charges sailing out of NYC are very high. In fact I know they are. All you have to do is compare ships sailing out of NJ with those that sail out of NY Harbor. Believe me, this has nothing to do with NCL.

I was looking for something to do with my girlfriends and was looking at this too....do they let you board early on sat in time for lunch? and do they kick you out first thing in am sun? Do you guys think its worth it for just overnight?

I have did the CTN a few years ago on the NCL Spirit, and yes it is worth it. You can board around noon and enjoy lunch. When I was on my last CTN I immediately made a reservation for a specialty restaurant as they do fill up quickly. After lunch you can explore the ship. Night time you can hit the casino and take in several shows. Topped off with a late night snack in Blue Lagoon. Disembarking after breakfast the next morning. If you add up lodging in a hotel, lunch, dinner, snacks and breakfast. As well as night time entertainment you will spend much more for a night in NYC or any other large city. If you go have a great time.

For those of you that have experienced a one night CTN, do you feel that it is typically for twenty and thirty somethings or is there a mix of age groups? We're a bit more mature in age and we do love cruising. I've read on the board that it is much different than a regular cruise? Can anyone explain?

I've done two ctn out of NY. I am older. Its a nice dinner and a night out on a ship. Its normally pretty full and crowded with people trying to do a longer cruise in one day. Its hardly a regular cruise. I have done it with my now 27 yo son when he was 22. he had a blast....we hardly saw him except for dinner....

You will find all ages--from teens celebrating sweet 16s, bachelorette parties (never saw bachelor parties though), 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and even some older folk.

Last two CTNs brought my DD who is her teens and her friend. They have a great time, and so did I--and I am old enough to have a teenage daughter and then some!;)
