Cash onboard from OBC???

I am going to have a significant OBC on my cruise. Anyone know if I can take it out in cash near the beginning of the cruise (to use for private excursions) without paying a fee?

I have gotten cash near the end of the cruise before without a problem. Just ask at the guest relations desk, I don't see why not as long as your onboard account has a credit card attached to it. If your onboard account is a cash account they may want you to keep a minimum amount on balance.

If it is refundable OBC (i.e., resulting from a price reduction/gift) then you should be able to go to Guest Relations to withdraw against your SeaPass Account. I don't know how early on in the cruise they will allow this. Our experience has been not until the last night of the cruise.

 

If it is non-refundable OBC that you received as a benefit from RCI (i.e., booking on board/shareholder), then you would have to take it out in the Casino and pay the 3% service charge.

On our last cruise 2 weeks ago, my BIL had a small amount left on his OBC. What he did was to go to the customer service desk, had them print off a copy of his room account showing the credit, and then he took it to the casino cashier and they gave him cash. We didn't know that's how it worked.

I did the same thing a few weeks ago. I had a very large obc due to a price drop. Keep in mind the obc did not post to my account for a day or two - which is normal. So if you are planning to use the cash right away you will be out of luck.

I have gotten cash back at the end. I have never heard of getting cash before end of cruise. It never hurts to ask.

No, he wasn't charged 3% because he had the print out of the room account showing that the money was there and that it belonged to him. If he didn't have that printout, he would have been charged the 3%. It was OBC from booking while on another cruise.

You can always get cash. It doesn't matter if the OBC shows or not. The OBC is incorporated in the final account statement as a credit anyways.

Instead of asking for a cash advance, why couldn't someone just buy casino chips, hold them a few days and then go cash them in? Does RCCL charge a 3% fee for purchasing casino chips?

Chips are purchased at the gaming tables in U.S. currency only. They can be redeemed at the cashier's cage and used only in the casino.

You can write up to 2 personal checks per guest for $450 each per cruise, use sea pass card (fees may apply) or if you want more than $5000 credit line set that up in advance of cruise thru the Casino Royal folks

I'm curious about this, because the last time I did it the limit was one check per passenger for a maximum of $250. They did not charge a fee, and you had to have your driver's license with the same address on it as the printed check for ID.

 

Did they increase the amounts in the last year? If they did I'm glad to hear it.

I took the 2 check info straight from the Gaming FAQs on their web site, if you plan to do this you may want to print off the page as back up to stave off any on board confusions. I think the $250 thing is at guest relations and not at the casino cage, not sure why the difference.

OK,that makes sense. I was referring to cashing checks at Customer Relations, and they require the DL but don't charge a fee.

Yes, it's a bit weird. RCCL wants you to use the obc purchasing onboard goodies that THEY make a profit on. The casino is a contracted vendor operation, so getting cash and giving it to the casino in losses isn't as much in RCCL's pocket. Hence the 3% fee to get the "free" obc money. Make sense? Not much, I know.
