Majesty of the Seas 12/24-12/17- Review with Pictures

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the information on what resturants are included. One more question though if you dont mind. You mentioned that the lines were long due to first time cruisers not making reservations. Is that something I need to do ahead of time? Do we make reservations for lunch and dinner? Is there only one main dining room? We like to eat early around 6, if I wait to long between meals I get shaky. Thanks for everyones advice.

My comment was not in any was dissing the first timers, I just noticed not many repeaters were onboard. If you choose MTD it is recommended that you make a reservation for each night. You can do this on the Royal Caribbean website- pre-cruise planner area. Although every time I have done MTD early (6pm-ish) there has never been a wait issue. No reservations are needed for lunch- the main dining room is only open for breakfast and dinner. Lunch is in the Windjammer, Johnny Rockets, Compass, or Sorrento's. There is a complimentary BBQ lunch on Coco Cay.

I understand the shakes, I get them too! I also get cranky when I get the shakes. So DH knows when I'm getting short with him it's time to find food.

Now as I stated at the beginning we were traveling in a group and a few of the members are rule breakers. One of my mom's friend's husbands brought collapsible fishing poles. He is a huge fisherman. The last time he came to Coco Cay he found a great fishing spot. So this time he took my husband out with him to show him how to fish. They did catch a barracuda. Everything was catch & release.

A group of us decided to go with them and watch. We walked around to the far side of the island. Past the water park and giant inflatable slide. I have close to 100 amazing shots form this hour.

So we made our way back on to the ship at around 4pm. Tendering wasn't bad at all. DH went right to the gym, after changing of course, and I wandered the ship to take a few pictures I hadn't yet. I made my way up to the Viking Crown Lounge which was empty every time I went up there. I love the views from VCL. This was was fairly big and a complete circle. Most of the newer ships have a semicircular shapes VCL.

As you can see in the bottom left corner, they use this for the Diamond Lounge each night. From what I can gather, this is the only thing ever going on up here. I went multiple times during the cruise and never found anyone or anything going on up here. That's a shame because DH and I like relaxing in the VCL watching the sunset and people watching.

I made my way back down to the cabin to find my husband had already beat me back down. He left the gym early because he was tired from being in the sun all day. He napped while I watched the 3-part series on the Eagle Class Project. This was one of the documentaries I hadn't seen yet. Very interesting to hear about the Voyager class being built.

We got ready for dinner a little early because we were going to take a group picture. We chose the Christmas tree in the Centrum. I am a little disappointed with the final product as you can barely tell we're in front of the tree.

After taking pictures we went over to the Schooner Bar for our gift exchange. My mom set this one up because these were her friends. She put each family in a hat and pulled names to assign who bought presents for each family.

IMG_4273.jpg

We ordered drinks for everyone and began opening presents. Someone walked by the small table next to DH and I and knocked over our drinks. The waitress/bar server was right there when it happened. She watched us clean the mess up, then came over and took the empty glass and walked away. Now I am not asking for a free lunch or anything, but this was not good service. I have friends who have worked in the bar world in college and the right thing to do is to help clean it up and then bring a new drink. Neither of which were done. This was the first of many bar service issues our group had on the trip.

When we were on Oasis- the person next to me knocked into my full drink. The waitress immediately cleaned it up and then brought a new one at no charge.

Note the empty glass and ice everywhere.

After we finished up with gift giving we went down a couple floors to the dining room for Christmas Dinner!

We then headed down to dinner. They had a special holiday menu this night.

I had the Golden Roasted Turkey and DH had the Hally Butt (this is what my husband called it) AND the Brisket.

We skipped dessert this night because we wanted to get to the Headliner Show at 10:45pm although I wanted to try a couple of the desserts.

So we left dinner before dessert because of timing. I ran down to my room and changed in to my casual clothes as this was formal night. I quickly made my way back to the Chorus Line Theater to watch the Headliner.

It was Paul DiMuzio- Comedy & Juggling. He's young, I think 24. Normally I don't see Headliners of his age, but he was great. Well he needs to work on the comedy, but he did some neat tricks with the juggling. He had a few props that glow and change colors. They shut the lights off and it was very cool to watch. We saw him wandering around the ship the next day with what I assume to be his wife (based on what I read form his bio on Facebook).

Once this was over he headed up to the pool for the Caribbean Market Café. I had myself some chocolate covered fruit by the pool. It was very cold and very windy, which made it difficult to enjoy myself out there. The ship was rocking a bit so the pool spillage made the floors wet. Wet + cold + wind = unhappy me!

We didn't stay long. We ended up going to the Viking Crown Lounge to watch the action below and stay warm.

and with that, we went to bed :)

Sunday- the 26th we were in Nassau. My mom's boyfriend woke up early and took some great shots as the ship was pulling in.

That's the Carnival Imagination. It left just after we pulled in to the dock.

Atlantis and the sunrise.

DH and I have been to Nassau many many times. We were just there in November when the Liberty had to reroute from Labadee due to Hurricane Tomas. We didn't really plan to do anything other than walk downtown with my mom to show her the liquor store that carries a very special brandy that she can only get on the islands. They don't sell it in the U.S. because of laws dictating the Brandy be made from fruit.

Much of Nassau was closed today because a) it was Sunday, so shops close early and b) it was Boxing Day. Now I've seen Boxing Day on calendars and heard of it, but never really knew what it was. Interestingly in many British countries it's a HUGE shopping day. Not in the Bahamas- it's a reason for everyone to stay home. The streets downtown were fenced off from the sidewalks and bleachers lined the street.

Now we walked downtown and found the liquor store. As we step inside it began to pour outside. It let up rather quickly and we headed back to the ship.

So DH and I went back on the ship while my mom and her boyfriend went over to Atlantis. He had never been.

We decided to hang out in the Schooner Bar. DH had some reading to do for a project he is working on at work. I had nothing to read so I spent my time watching the very choppy surf out the window. It was incredibly relaxing.

After relaxing for an hour and a half we went up to the WJ for lunch.

Pretty much a plate full of carbs. I don't eat seafood and a lot of what was being offered for lunch was seafood.

The roasted potatoes were excellent!

Then we headed back to the room for an afternoon nap. On the way down I took a few shots of the landings/elevator areas. I felt that they were rather large. This is a nice feature, so that the areas don't get too cramped.

I am loving your review. Can't wait to go in 9 days! A few questions- Do we have to do formal night, or can we skip and do one of the other options (Sorrento's or JR?) What would you recommend for Nassau (we will be there on a Sunday as well)? We are first-timers. Also, my daughter is turning 21 (Jan 2). What options do they offer for celebration? (cake, etc.) Thanks!!

Compass Deli and Sorrento's were only open during lunch hours. The final day it was open until 7pm. Johnny Rockets is a dinner option as well as the Windjammer. I do have to say that formal night on this ship wasn't as formal as I have seen/experienced on other ships.

As far as Nassau, I would suggest Atlantis if you've never been. You can grab a taxi for $4 a person each way and tour the Casino, Shopping, and Aquarium yourself. If you want to go deeper into Atlantic there are day passes you can buy or purchase a shore excursion on the ship.

You can have your reservation noted that it is her birthday and they will bring a dessert with a candle and sing to her.

Did you ever try the crepes in the compass deli? where in soflo are you guess from. im in cooper city

We're in Boca Raton, a little north of you.

They weren't making crepes in Compass Deli on this trip. There was only one day we could get Crepes and that was Sunday in the Windjammer (downstairs).

So we napped back in our cabin for a little bit.

DH and I wanted to go upstairs to get new Walk for Wishes shirts. Our original ones were bought over a year ago on our honeymoon and were faded. The event was to be held at 5pm near the rock climbing wall.

So around 4:30, just as the ship was supposed to be clearing for disembarkation, I stepped in to the hall to ask my mom a question. I looked down the hall and saw 3 Bahamian Police about 4 or 5 doors down from me. They were holding a man against the wall and holding a large black duffel bag. I quickly knocked on my mom's door and when she came out we still couldn't leave.

We were on Deck 2 where there is only one way out. My mom's room was the last cabin next to the Crew door. We had to wait until the situation was over. DH came out and the three of us stood there not really knowing what to do. Finally, they grabbed the guy and were forcefully pulling him down the hall toward the stairs and elevators.

We proceeded behind them. I couldn't hear much but they were telling him that he won't be going home with the ship today and he will have to find a flight back when everything is settled.

We made our way to the 11th deck. I decided to peer over the side and saw the police literally pick him up and turn him horizontal and toss him onto the golf cart below. The arrestee then tried getting up and walking away from the cart, but they quickly pushed him back on the cart. While the picture below certainly does no justice, here is some evidence!

IMG_4321.jpg

We proceeded to the rock wall, where there was no indication of a Walk for Wishes event. I asked the girl at the waiver stand and she told me they are just selling the shirts and not doing the walk. I'm not really sure why, but DH and I donated our $20 and got new shirts.

I always try to donate to charities involving children. My primary job is a teacher and I see what children go through on a daily basis, I don't teach in a premiere school. I encounter things that make me want to cry sometimes.

Our next stop was the Welcome Back- Crown & Anchor Party. It seemed rather deserted to me! Normally I am used to a lot of people piling in. It was held in the Spectrum Lounge. This was the first C&A party I had been to that very few officers attended.

The Hotel Director hosted it. He first introduced the top 3 cruisers onboard. I missed the first name, but they were at 93 cruises. The second couple was the Steel's (not sure of the correct spelling), and finally Super Mario! I felt so honored to onboard with people I've heard about many times on Cruise Critic and on the ship. When we were on the Liberty last month I was showing DH Mario's wall space by the Loyalty Ambassador. Quite impressive!

They each were given an award and pictures taken.

The Hotel Director went on to talk about Oasis & Allure. He mentioned that Royal Caribbean has vowed to never build bigger. HD said he doesn't buy it for a second, because they said that about the Voyager Class and then the Freedom Class as well!!!

His final line was "Now, go spread that one on Cruise Critic!" I don't really know what he was referring to, but I giggled.

Now I have to go deal with a situation. It appears as though the Majesty of the Seas has billed my credit card for multiple onboard accounts, of all different prices ranges. I'm pretty sure we only stayed in one room on this trip...

I've been on Majesty twice and missed this seat both times. Maybe on the 3rd time if that happens, I did see seating back here, but just didn't get to it.

Hi Bill! Coleman and I missed it, too, and we were at the deli several times! Hope you and your wife are doing well and had a great Christmas!

Leigh
