Glad you enjoyed your trip despite the problems. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw. Our last trip we booked an AB and in the mini-suite next to us was a large family. My DH started calling them the Von Trapps, LOL! I don't know if they were all in the cabin, don't see how. so I'm thinking that they had several cabins.

Well, it never failed that everytime I wanted to use my balcony to sit and read and relax and listen to the ocean, there they were all 12 or so of them spending the day on their balcony and they were really loud! Plus they would hang over the rail and be looking in over at my balcony which took away from my privacy. But there's nothing you can do, they're allowed to be on their balcony and I just had to deal with it. Glad you didn't let it spoil your trip!

I think some smokers are the rudest people on the face of the earth Please note i said some.. I use to work with a couple guys who would smoke and blow it right in your face and dare you to say something.. I also have asma from to much smoke.. My grandfather quit smoking because it was making me sick everytime i would go over and visit.. Said it was the easiest dession of his life his bad habbit or his grandson.. But anyways I dont know why NCL cant say certain rooms are non smoking certain are smoking My right to breathe fresh clean air is important to me.. Please NCL and other cruise lines take our advice and make smoking policys

Thank you for that very wise observation. However you can replace the word “smoker” with every portion of the human race. For example; do you not think name calling “chimneys” or treating smokers as if they are some lower class of the human beings or with total disgust is not rude?

I totally agree! And George Lucas hit it spot on in Attack of the Clones... never forget that line "You wanna buy some death sticks?" I cracked up and ever since when I see a cigarette... I call it death sticks!

I think when a smoker thinks there right to smoke is greater than my right to breathe is rude.. especially when someone has asma and allgeries.. If you wanna smoke thats your right but do it where it wont harm someone elses right to breathe and enjoy there vaca or meal.. The state i live in has banned smoking in all public buildings resturants and commercial vechicles.. I really hate seing a car with the windows up and a baby in the back seat..baby stands no chance at all..They could have a deck for smokers only and a deck for smoke free only or a deck with both would work for everyone..

If you will notice I didn't say some smokers aren't rude but our definition of rude and/or rights are on opposite ends therefore I won't even argue or discuss that issue. It is pointless. These 2 sides will never agree.

But I noticed you missed the point to my post. #1 rude is a very subjective word and #2 resorting to name calling to try and put another person down, enforce your point or belittle another human being is in my opinion rude but obviously you do share this opinion.

If you or anyone else on this board or others have serious life and death health issues or just health issues in general with smoking, NCL is very above board with their smoking policy, choose another line (there are a couple) that could be more to your standards. I have health issues, but do not ask anyone in the world to change to compensate them it just requires me to make different choices. Thats called life!!!

Glad you had a good cruise. The smoking issue is a "Hot Button", and most cruise lines are starting to restrict smoking in various ways. I believe if we are around long enough, smoking will diminish and cease to be a major problem. That doesn't help in the short run, but hopefully the health issues associated with smoking will have an impact.

If they die off more quickly, not only does that make the air better for the rest of us to breath but it reduces medicare costs and lengthens the time until Social Security goes broke.

In a few instances in today's civilization, Darwin does rule.

theres gotta be a solution to both sides.. The op had a problem with smoke coming her there adjoing room.. So they had to ducktape the crakes and leave a air purfier.. If ncl restricted smoking to every other adjoing cabins like 2 cabins u can smoke 2 you cant.. should please most.. I know you cant please everyone and if you say no smoking you elimate some of your passengers would not be a wise business move.. Im sorry if i offended you or anybody.. Just giving my thoughts on the subject matter Enjoy your cruise in 3 days and ill enjoy mine in march !

The smoke issue would be bad enough for me to deal with, but the fact that I can't enjoy my backyard or sleep at night because of all my neighbor's barking dogs makes me look forward to a get away from that frustration on a cruise.

And then find out you could have a barking dog in the cabin next door ...horrifying!

I had that problem in my backyard and I got a little gadget called "BarkOff" and it stopped the problem. It works up to about 20 feet. I only had barking dogs on one side, and they came to the fence and barked at me when I was in the yard .

You don't offend me with your opinion. Everyone has one and whether or not I agree or disagree with your opinion is really irrelevant since as I stated early on arguing smoking vs non-smoking opinions is a never ending not compromisable issue.

What I do take great offence to is name calling of anyone or group of people to belittle another person, not that you did, that statement was made prior to you even posting.

Although your tone did give the opinion smokers were terrible inconsiderate humans. I smoke where I am permitted to do so, yet I still hear people who choose to be in an area that is designated smoking and still complain, that somehow I am infringing on THEIR rights to clean air everywhere THEY choose to stand, or want a bigger area to "play" or "stand" or "sit" or "whatever", because their area of total restaraunts, bars, public buildings, 1/2 the side of the pool area is not enough for them. If someone is close enough to blow smoke in your face then perhaps you were standing too close to the person who actually had a lit cigarette. I don't blow smoke in someones face, however I also don't have anyone that has issues with me smoking standing close enough to blow it in their face.

My point if you have issues with a company's policies stop trying to change them or complaining abut them, move on .find a company you can support that has the same beliefs as you. If you are truly the majority all it would take would be everyone with your belief moving to a cruise line that does what you want and I guarantee in at least 6 months, if you are the majority of thinkers, NCL would quickly change to please you as they WILL follow the dollars. If you are not their bread and butter than at least you have found a company that can please you.

Thanks a million! I was just telling my husband I was going to look for some sonic device. Now I know what to look for! Glad to hear it's working. I'll just get 3!

Sorry this smoking thing has raised a lot of commotion. I was really impressed with NCL that they would duct tape our door and give us an air purifier. We looked at the cruise lines smoking policies after we got back and it appears to us that Celebrity has the strictest rules...we will sail with them next. They do not allow smoking in the rooms or the balconies, nor the casino...and there are hefty fines if they do. And they limit smoking on the decks to the port side. I thought NCL had a port side only rule but they do not. On NCL, you can pretty much smoke everywhere except the restaurants! In my everyday life, I rarely come across a smoker (maybe because I work in a hospital), so even though I booked a cruise on a ship I knew allowed smoking, I had no idea we would be totally and surrounded by it. Why do so many smokers cruise? That would be an interesting study to do....
sd200044- Moderno is the old Pacific Heights so a small restaurant. They had a nice salad bar with kind of unusual, but tasty choices. They bring portions of garlic mashed, rice, black beans to your table. You have a card..when the green side is flipped up, they stop and bring you meat. When you cannot eat anymore, you flip the card to red. There were probably about 8-10 meat choices including two chicken, two sausage, lamb, pork and maybe 4 beef offererings..it was wonderfullly tasty!
St. Thomas was a zoo...I think there were 4 ships in port including the Oasis. They herded us like cattle onto Taxis....there was one woman directing traffic...you told her where you wanted to go and she pointed to which taxi you should board. THey are open air, safari like taxis. We went to Sapphire beach right away to snorkel...we did not get into port until noon. Taxi was $10 perperson. We thought about trying to take the bus that you pick up across from kmart, but port was such a zoo and we didnt really know the way "out" so it was easier just to take the taxi. There are no "personal" taxis that I could see...Sapphire beach was amazing...the snorkeling was good...$8 for 2 hours, and chairs were $7 each for unlimited time. There were people coming for drink/food orders but we did not get anything. There were a lot of iguanas walking around if you like that sort of thing. I would definitely go back. We shopped after snorkelling...be aware, even if you are in port until 8 pm like we were, the shops still all close at 5 pm...we only had 30 minutes shopping before everything closed...we walked around a bit then went back to the ship.
In St. Martin we used Bernards tours. We got off the ship right away to check out the port (it was huge and not crowded and wild like ST thomas). The tour didnt leave until about 930, waiting for everyone to arrive. Gizmo was our tour guide and he was wonderful. We stopped at some scenic spots to take pictures, stopped to see the urchin man, then went to orient beach for about 90 minutes. I am somewhat of a prude, but was not bothered at all by the nudity/topless women. There is one local guy who bares it all, and he has a lounger right next to where the busses come in, so this is the first sight you see....if we had our kids with us, I would have had a problem with it. There is almost no way to avoid the nudity at Orient beach..you can walk to the left, but even there topless women walk by all the time. Just and FYI for families. But the beach was gorgeous...we rented two chairs and an umbrella ($15) and soaked up the sun, went for a walk, drank Carib beer....it was fun! Then we drove to Marigot and had only 15 minutes...long enough to go to the bathroom and that was it. Our entire tour ran late because of so much traffic..otherwise I think you get 30 mi in Marigot. Maho was the same..we should have gotten an hour, but he told us to be back in 20 minutes (mind you we had breakfast at 7 am, and drank beers and rum punch (all free on the tour) and had no time for lunch- it was 2 pm now). We saw two smaller planes land and one take off, but we wanted to see the big plane come in. Being the good doobies we are, at 2 pm we met at the bus. And then proceeded to wait 30 more minutes on the bus for the last 2 people to return. And a huge plane went over while we sat on the bus waiting. We were so angry. So, the late comers got the pictures of the big plane, maybe even lunch, while the rest of us arriving on time got to sit and wait for them for 30 minutes. What I learned....take a private tour....especially when there are 6 ships in port....I would have loved to spend more time at Marigot and at Maho. There was no Rima's stop like advertised...there was just too much traffic. We were dropped off at 330 and shopped a bit before returning to the ship. I hope that helps somewhat...if not, email me directly lhiltunen66@charter.net.

First of all, cigarette smoke is a known irritant and proven cause for cancer. That being said, you don't necessarily have to have a "medical condition" to not want to be around or find being around cigarette smoke offensive. Again, it is a personal choice to smoke, however, everyone requires clean air to breath. People in general (on both sides) need to be less self-centered and be responsible in making good judgment where and when you smoke and when to allow yourself to be susceptible to it. After all, this is a subject that can bring health hazards to all involved. Just saying...........
