TXSea Posted March 7, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2005 Any recommendations for restaurants in Nassau?
scubagirrl Posted March 9, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2005 There are plenty of places to have lunch in town depending on your likes and how much time you have. Conch Fritters has good food with a great upbeat Junkanoo atmosphere. Lums Iguana (Upstairs overlooking Bay Street) has good burgers, etc. British Colonial Hilton has a terrific outdoor grill with Grouper, Chicken, Salads, Sandwiches, and sits overlooking the beach and harbour. Of course Senor Frogs has mexican and they overlook the water also. For Authentic Bahamian Food, try the Bahamian kitchen or head t Arawak Cays "Fish Fry"and try one of the dozen or so local restaurant. The Fish Fry is about 1/2 mile west of the dock along the water. http://www.bahamas-treasures.com/bahamas/ArawakCay.html
maggieworkman Posted March 9, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2005 Are any of these close to Atlantis?? We are spending the day at Atlantis during our Sovereign cruise. We may just eat at Atlantis but I hear its expensive and its probably not Bahamian cuisine. So any place close by?? Maggie

scubagirrl Posted March 11, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 11, 2005 Maggieworkman, Try Anthony's Grill Across the Street from the Coral Towers. Great food and decor at a more moderate price. Bevo, Yes, Conch Fritters is a food as well as a restaurant. It's located across the street from the FRONT of the British Colonial Hilton heading west. Go Right as you leave the port and walk 3-4 short blocks til you get to the Hilton. Go left along the front of it. (you can't miss it). http://www.bahamasgo.com/conchfritters.htm

michmike Posted March 14, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 14, 2005 can't remember the name of the place, but we've had great conch fritters twice now at a restaurant on the port side of the main street, about half way down the tourist stretch. As you go in the front door the cash register and service areas are on the right and the tables off to the left. This is one block over from the waterfront stretch where the straw mkt is. might be called the cameo but wouldn't swear to it.
Jeanne S Posted March 23, 2005 #8 Share Posted March 23, 2005 If money is no object: Graycliff right in town or via cab Buena Vista are worth the trip!!!
Scotch Posted June 24, 2005 #9 Share Posted June 24, 2005 Scubagirrl, Which items at Conch Fritters do you recommend? The menu looks good and prices seem reasonable. What are particular local specialities? Thanks.
digital_curator Posted June 30, 2005 #10 Share Posted June 30, 2005 We were in Nassau in January and went to Conch Fritters. I had the conch fritters which were amazing. My husband had a a grilled cheese. We liked the food (and the Goombay Smash was good too:D ) but it took over an hour to get our food and it wasn't busy. The servers weren't really rude but they sure weren't attentive! One of them broke a glass and left it there on the floor for the entire time we were there! http://www.bahamasgo.com/conchfritters.htm Hope this helps. Cheers,

What are particular local specialities? Thanks. You have to try the Conch Fritters.. they are terrific, and if you have room, make sure you try their Macaroni and Cheese (it's a bit peppery, so watch out if you have kids). Cracked Conch appetizer if great to see if you like it, and Grouper fingers or broiled grouper would be a wise choice. Gotta try a Guava Duff for dessert.. it's very rich, so you may want to share. scubagirrl Posted July 1, 2005 #12 Share Posted July 1, 2005 can't remember the name of the place, but we've had great conch fritters twice now at a restaurant on the port side of the main street, about half way down the tourist stretch. Might be Cafe Skans - they have some really good local food at excellent prices. The place is a little like an old diner, but the food, service and prices can't be beat. Open for breakfast and lunch only.
Scotch Posted July 1, 2005 #13 Share Posted July 1, 2005 If we only have time to try one place within easy walking distance of the port, would you go for Conch Fritters or the beachside grill at the Colonial Hilton hotel?
scubagirrl Posted July 1, 2005 #14 Share Posted July 1, 2005 Depends on what you are looking for. Conch Fritters is very colorful, TGIF's sort of atmosphhere, a block from the beach. There's no view of the beach/harbour etc, but the place is colorful and the food is good, Conch Fritters has a more extensive menu. The Patio Grill is overlooking the beach and the harbour. (View can't be beat). They server more common casual food, like burgers, chicken wings, conch fritters, grouper fingers, chef salads. club sandwiches etc. Don't think they have cracked conch or chowder on the menu and no macaroni and cheese. SO.. if you are looking to taste some good bahamian food, I'd opt for Conch Fritters. If you are looking to sit out on the beach and enjoy a few drinks and simple lunch.. then Patio grille would be a good choice. Hope this helps!
