Jax to FLL by rental car

We will be driving from Jax to FLL on Monday, Jan 2012 (Martin Luther King day). How long will it really take us (as opposed to the 6 hrs listed on mapquest). What is the best time of day to leave to miss the traffic in various cities. Thank you!

6 hours is pretty close - the MLK holiday, given the time of year and weather, is pretty busy in FLA. The earlier you are clear of JAX, the better. After the I-4 turnoff to Orlando the traffic should ease up until you get farther south - from Palm Beach on you cna count on traffic.

Good luck! :)

Southwest Airlines from JAX to FLL is about 45 minutes and costs about as much as a rental car plus gas when purchased in advance. Just trying to give you another option. Of course if driving is your thing then enjoy that too! :D

You should be good. As stated it will be smooth sailing until WPB!

As long as you have company in your car, you can use the car pool lane from WPB all the way to Ft. Lauderdale (and beyond), so traffic won't be a problem!

ENG -- We usually fly SW from JAX to FLL -- however -- it appears they have raised the rates -- instead of being the $49 we used to pay -- the rates in Nov are $89!!!! So once the Jan dates open -- if its $49 we will do it -- if its the higher rate -- no way -- we can drive there for 50% of that.

You are right about airfares going up. I understand how that can impact your decision to drive. Keep checking for the Jan. schedule to see what the fares will be. Either way enjoy your trip! :D
