Differences between Mercury & Galaxy?

Recommended Posts

We've now been on Century and Mercury, and I noticed definite differences, including the additional aft indoor pool/dining area, the Fun Factory location, etc. Thinking about Galaxy's Canal cruise next spring & was just checking out Galaxy's layout online -- and it looks like G is identical to M -- so did they just build Century, decide "hmm, there are a few things we're going to change, so let's change them for the other two in the class" OR does Galaxy indeed have some differences from Mercury? Just wondering. Thanks!

We've been on Mercury and Galaxy and aside from a couple of differences in the layout, they are pretty much the same. The decor and artwork are unique to each, but the lighter wood tones of both gave the same 'feel'.

I'm not sure if it was because Mercury was my first cruise ship, but that is the one I prefer. Can't wait for out November cruise on Galaxy though . They are both lovely ships.

Hi babylene. Yes, both Galaxy and Mercury have indoor pools under a retractable roof at the rear of the ship, but they are quite small compared to the outside pool.

Here is a link to a photo. You'll see it is a bit small for a swim:

Hi Babylene there were adults in the pool on the Mercury. Its a really nice set up (in my opinion). The indoor pool is in the "Palm Springs" area.....aft. The ceiling is retractable too!

Next up...HORIZON Sept 18th to Bermuda!

the pool is too small for any real swimming although our kids really liked it.

tcori,
as posted earlier, the only real difference between Galaxy and Mercury is the interior decorating. There are however minor differences with locations of some of the cabins such as 8106 which is an inside cabin on the Galaxy. Such a cabin does not exist in the same location on the Mercury and hence the cabin number is assigned to an outside cabin on the Galaxy.

Thanks all. I'm actually glad to hear this ... we *really* liked Mercury's layout, and the covered pool/grill/eating area in the back was perhaps our favorite spot on the ship! (especially since it was just one flight up from our aft FO cabin on Penthouse deck) ... particularly on the not-so-warm stretch of the CA coastal/MX itinerary, though certainly things would be warmer on the Panama Canal/Caribbean swing ... We also have been on the Century and the Mercury and are booked on the Galaxy for the April 02,05 sailing.

The way I understand it is that the Galaxy is more like the Mercury than the Century.
These ships are definitely my favorites

Bablene:

The pool can be used on rainy days since the roof is retractable and it is also there for cooler days on various itineries such as Alaska.

The regular pools are really not that large for lap swimming either.

Hi Lois! Glad you had a great cruise and another to look forward to!We're going on the Galaxy at the end of October and I already booked the Mercury for Feb. I think I ,too, am getting addicted!

Thank you all for your repies. Have any of you been on the "m-class" ships? Is the set-up anything like that around the t-pool? Is it around the same size as the t-pool? I am trying to picture this!

Have a great day,all!
