Miracle Cruise Director - thoughts?

My wife and I have gotten to know Malcolm a little better than other CDs, since we cruised with him four times over a very short period. He's one genuinely nice guy, and despite all his recent health problems, he's an absolute trooper on board. And, at the end of the day, he's a Tri-state local boy from the Bronx made good on a cruise ship, so that's fine by me as well!

We cruised the Miracle in Feb and thought he was lousy. We did not see him around at all. They should have let us know that Aruba is closed on Sundays and no shopping or eating really. The only thing that is open is the Casino. Also they did not let us know that the only way to see La Romana is to take an excursion and that we had to use our sail and sign card on the island as it is owned by Carnival. I did not think he was that informative. To each his own I guess. You make like him. Everyone has their own tastes/experiences. Have a great cruise.

We also cruised this past Jan. on the Miracle with Malcolm. He seemed to be doing his job, however, we do not cruise to hang with the cruise director. We were too busy to notice what he did or didn't do. He has assistance that we may have seen more since we were all over the ship, he can only be in one place at a time . When we did see him he was pretty funny and entertaining with the guests. :p

I would tell you my thoughts on the CD but whenever I post anything negative about anyone at Carnival someone will report me to John Heald so sorry cannot comment.

Don't be held back from making constructive criticism, they are your views and if someone doesn't like them they can always skip over the post. ;) To run to John and tell, reminds me of elementary school.

I cruised with him late last year, and because of a number of things that happened aboard "Miracle" which were directly controlled by him, I found him to be the worst cruise director I've experienced in over 120 total cruises. Many of the onboard activities that were posted in the "FunTimes" either didn't happen because the CD's staff didn't show up, or happened late, because his staff didn't show up. He fired the karaoke host the week before I sailed, and the CD's staff took over that duty, but made it well known that they hated doing that "extra work", and as a result they did a horrible job of it. The 8 day cruises normally have a "Legends Show", and a Guest Talent Show, but "Miracle" didn't have the talent show. I asked Malcolm why the show wasn't on the agenda, and he told me that it was just too much work, and he was entirely too busy to put it on the schedule. (He did, however, have plenty of time to chase the young women around the ship.) He simply doesn't run a "tight ship" with his staff, and sets a VERY poor example for the entertainment staff. Sorry, but that's the way it was on my "Miracle" cruise.

Sad but true.

John Heald now calls me the "Golfer" and is now convinced I hate him.

As a result it is easier to just not comment on individuals. It has happened too many times this year.

This certainly does not sound like the Malcolm that my husband and I know. (Then again we hate the guest talent show, a bunch of attention seeking, mostly drunk passengers singing very poorly.) On the cruise after our honeymoon (June and Nov respectively) when Malcolm came out during the welcome aboard show he remembered us and came out into the audience to chat with us. We also had the privilege to be his guest during lunch one day at sea. I guess your mileage may vary....

I've cruised 2 times with Malcom and enjoyed him both times. We've sailed the Miracle on it's first cruise back in FLL for the past 2 years. They have not had a guest talent show on either sailing but they did have the Legends show. Now you may have actually gotten lucky with the entertainment staff running karaoke if the person he fired was the same gal that ran it when we sailed. She had absolutely no control over the guests and allowed the same group of obscene people run the show the first couple nights. As a result karaoke was poorly attended that cruise. She admitted it was out of control but had already spoken to the group. It was our first bummer karaoke experience.

Perhaps if I had seen all of the issues you did when you cruised I'd feel differently about him. It sure seems hit or miss and people either really like him or don't care for him at all. I loved his silent skit and that's something that is completely exclusive to him. There are only so many nights available to do shows so it's not always about a CD being lazy. Actually we are sailing our 9th cruise this weekend and have only seen the guest talent show once (on the Splendor swine flu cruise). I'm guessing we got to have it on that cruise because we didn't get off the ship and comedians/entertainers couldn't board either. I really enjoyed it but do understand how much time it takes to prepare etc.

When we cruised the Miracle late last fall, we thought Malcom was OK. He personally was pleasant and fun. His social staff and assistant cruise director were way too much into inside jokes and little games they were playing with each other. They were very childish and spent very little time doing their job and interacting with the passengers.

This is the second time that we have encountered a social staff that was way below par. I know the bunch that we had with on the Pride have been properly dealt with. (Temporary CD onboard who did not care) I hope the bunch on the Miracle have had their ways corrected.

I brought this to the attention of Carnival and I presume my comments were duly noted.

Ditto what KrisMusc313 said. We were on in July and thought he was great. We are going again this summer, and would be delighted to have him again.

The interaction, etc., among the CD's staff was one of the things I'd noticed as well, and I am suggesting that this is directly because Malcolm gives them no direction, or instructions! I too made the "beards" aware of my observations on our last "Miracle" cruise, and the reply was that they'd be looking into the situation. I'm hoping that the problem was only with my cruise, and not the case of every "Miracle" cruise. I truly love "Miracle", and really hate to see it go "down the tubes".

if it's malcolm that's on the miracle that is being discussed, yes, he's down there at the bottom of the pickins. didn't care for him.

he wasn't on the miracle when we sailed her. the guy we had is no longer around. and to that, i say thank God!

um, are you sure it was women?

HA! Nope,,,not really. He had a group of "people" cornered one evening, and was really "putting on the dog" for 'em. I didn't stay around long enough to see who "went home with whom", so I didn't take a close look at 'em. He seemed to have plenty of time for that group, but ignored others in the area who said "hello" to him?

2 particular things regarding Malcom on our Miracle cruise in January we found the most annoying.....

First - his "woo-hoo" tags on every comment or announcement got really old.....REALLY quick!

And, every chance he had he reminded us that he had cut way back on the number on announcements that he makes in a day. Which - I suppose, technically - may be true. BUT....the ones he made were quite lloooonnnnnnggg .

So we found it insulting that he was busy saying he was doing fewer announcements - making it seem as though he was doing us a favor. But.....in reality they were as long - maybe even longer - than what we had from any other CD's in the past.
