Serenade a nice ship?

Recommended Posts

We're looking at a possible cruise on the Serenade of the Seas. It looks like a beautiful ship, but I was wondering whether anyone had travelled on it and could provide their insight. Are the glass elevators really that cool? Is the main atrium as beautiful as it looks? Is the adults only pool really that decorated? Any other comments on the ship would be much appreciated.

I've previous travelled on the Adventure of the Seas, so that would be my basis of comparison.

Just sailed on the serenade last week!! A truly beautiful ship but quite different than the voyager class of ships. Pool is nice but quite small in comparison. The glass elevators are wonderful, same view as if you were standing on the top deck looking out. I prefer the larger ships, but I think it just depends on what your preferences are. I have been on quite a few royal carribean ships, they are all very nice.

After sailing on 2 voyager class ships and then the Serenade my vote would have to go to the voyager class.

IMO the Serenade is a beautiful ship. Just not my favorite. I like the twin pools on the voyager class which made the pool area on the Sereande seem small. I definately missed the royal promanade. The first night parade they hold there just seems to set the stage for the week ahead. The shops were nice and I also like the pub and cafe. It was very roomy. The shops on the Sereande seemed to be crammed into a zig-zagged niche outside the photo gallery. I didnt care for it at all. Although the Serenade had a beautiful staircase, the atrium of the of the voyager class ships are also quite impressive, we especially love the Explorer!

We feel our next cruise will be on another voyager class...infact we are booked for the 6/25/2005 sailing on the Freedom of the Seas.

One entertains like a theme park the other entertains like a fine palace or museum.

You'll notice which one we are booked for next ;)

Now I'm very confused. Put me in a science museum and I'm like a kid in a candy store. Put me in a museum of art and I'd be bored to death.

From looking on the deck plans, it seems there are two pools. One main one and one in the Solarium. Is the Solarium pool the "adults only" pool like on the larger ships? That's the one area on the Adventure of the Seas that we loved the best...is it nice and quiet in that area?

Also, why is the Serenade like a theme park. Just because the design is themed? Is it not elegant still?

Boy you must really hate the Voyager with its $10 million art collection!

Have been on all classes of RCCL ships...the Serenade is our hands down favorite...quietly elegant! The voyager class is slightly more like a circus...

it just depends on what you want out of your time on board!

Have you been to Hermitage? Louvre? Vatican Museum? I bet you won't be bored there! ;)

We were just on the Serenade last week, and I thought it was beautiful. I haven't been on the Voyager class ships, but before our first cruise on the Serenade, I read all over these boards various people's opinions of Radiance class versus Voyager class. Seems like there are as many opinions are there are people! ;)

It is true that the shops on board are a bit cramped, but I wasn't there to shop so that didn't bother me. Made for an interesting time getting to the evening's show, because you either walk through the shops & photo gallery on deck 5, or through the casino on deck 6, to get to the theatre. (I suppose you could go to another deck and take the forward elevators, but that seems complicated!) We wound our way through the shops without any problem every night (the casino routing was a bit smoky, so that was out!).

The only problem I would have with the Serenade is the itinerary is so port intensive. Actually, as our first cruise, we chose the Serenade because of its itinerary. However, we were having so much fun and getting so worn out at each of the ports, we didn't spend much time on board at all! We managed to hit the mini-golf course on our last day (sea day), but never made it to see the self-leveling billiard tables.

You'll have a great time if you chose the Serenade.:D

I was a bit board when I went to the Hermitage. But I was also rather clueless about art. I did enjoy the artwork on the Serenade, though! :)

I was active almost 15 yo at the time I visited Hermitage and I was fascinated. In fact I had to go back 3 times.;) (Well, I spent 1 month in St.P)

IMHO even if you aren't big fan of paintings there are so many other things to see there.

We have been on all classes of their ships, and the Serenade was our favorite. Like anything else, of course you will get different opinions. We found the Voyager too big and too crowded. It was still a nice cruise, but a little bit much for us.

The Centrum on the Serenade is beautiful, the Solarium was amazing and the elevators are all glass and you could see outside and inside to the centrum area. Up on deck 12 (I think 12 is correct), in the loyalty ambassadors lounge, there is a glass bubble that you can look down right to the floor of the centrum (whoa). The entertainment for fine, no different than any other cruise. The ship is very well taken care of and the food was good, although we have never had any complaints on any of our cruises regarding the food.

Whichever you choose, you will have a great time.

The Voyager is one of our favorite ships but will be sailing the Serenade to Alaska in June. From what I see in pictures, her beauty will probably match Alaska's natural beauty so looks like a great ship for this type of cruise. And, I anticipate not getting board as there is always more than enough to do on a ship I think, if nothing more than sitting back with a good book for hours at a time (I'm pretty simple :-).

Regarding the Hermitage, I visited as a 17 year old high school student and had more fun watching people than viewing the art. But, since then, I've developed some appreciation of art and find myself purposefullly visiting art museums. Again, watching people is as much fun as viewing the collections. And, sounds like the Serenade will have both.
