Liztoybiz Posted July 20, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2011 We need opinions please. Naples will be one of our stops on our cruise in two weeks. We've decided not to do Pompeii and really would like to take a tour of the Amalfi coast. Either a bus or a car/van tour would be great, we just don't want to go to Pompeii, or museums as the two previous days will have educated us into oblivious. This brain needs a little recharge time. Anyway, we've considered the two offerings by Romeinlimo and really don't want to do the ship's excursions. Can anyone suggest another good option? There will just be two of us, my 17 yr. old daughter and me, however, if it is a car thing where we need to find others to join us, we're making friends among others on our cruise and could possibly fill a car. Also looking for something that is less than 125 euros each. Our ship will be there from 7-7. Thank you for any suggestions! joandian Posted July 20, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2011 We did go to Pompeii and then the Amalfi Coast and used Rome in Limo (also used them in 2 other ports) and they were fantastic. There are many positive reviews for them in this forum so I suggest you contact them. They will put the tour together from what you request. cruisinskier Posted July 21, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 21, 2011 Another vote for RIL. They will customize your day based entirely upon what you want to do. We spent the Naples day with them in May and had a great day...we did Pompeii but it was our first time there. If you do decide to use RIL, I recommend you ask for Giovanni who was a true professional. Enjoy your cruise.
texancruzer Posted July 21, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 21, 2011 We have used APTours and will use them again this November. Their prices are great and their service is impeccable. We have had only good experiences with them. So - there ya go...... an alternative (which is what she asked for :D)

Liz/Epic/31.7.11 Why not take the ferry to Capri and spent a relaxing day out there. Apparently the ferry stop is close where the cruise ship will be. You can go there to the Blue Grotto and/or take a spectacular ride from the top of the hill in Capri down in a cable car. Having lunch overlooking the Med is also not to be missed. Enjoy! It is a lovely place to spend the day, especially when you don't have to zoom through on the way to/from Pompeii. There is also a post that is still somewhere on the first page of the Italy board about a pizza making class in Sorrento, though surely there is somewhere in Naples to do that. Hiking Vesuvius is another possibility, though you have probably seen that on the tour list from your ship.
Rare TLCOhio Posted July 21, 2011 #9 Share Posted July 21, 2011 We used RomeInLimo last month and had a super great experience with our driver-guide Carmine. Below are a few of my visual samples (and evidence) that a "great time was had by all". Ravello was wonderful, plus having a super lunch in a small family dining place above Positano. Love this area of Italy. You can check out the detailed postings on the below-noted live/blog for what we did in this port, plus in other places in Italy. We had visited Pompeii on our 1999 trip to the area and we wanted to sample Herculaneum on this second visit. Herculaneum was a nearby luxury resort town for the elite of the Roman empire. Pompeii would still probably be the first-choice as its variety and options are more there. Plus, bigger crowds. Herculaneum was nice option to do for our re-visit and it good to be able to see it without battling large numbers of other people. THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio Just back from a June 7-19 Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. Dozens of wonderful visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc. These postings are now at 22,832 views for this live/blog re-cap on our first sailing with Celebrity and much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at: http://www.boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1426474 For details and visuals, etc., from our July 1-16, 2011, Norway Coast/Fjords/Arctic Circle cruise experience from Copenhagen on the Silver Cloud, check out this posting. Don’t be shy and feel free to comment and/or ask any questions of interest. For Ravello overlooking the Gulf of Solerno, this is the view from their main square to its neighboring, hillside village.: Ravello has many nice ceramics shops with locally-made pieces of many sizes. Here is the owner making a welcoming toast to come in and shop.: Here is the view of Positano from the east of this spectacular town stacked along the coast.: Near Positano, this is the super luxury hotel, its gardens and views where the rooms go for about $1200 a night. Costly, but million-dollar sights from each of the rooms.: We are getting ready to enter Herculaneum's main market area and this is part of the overall view for this section of the town.: In the interior of the temple or religious area at Herculaneum, here is the large wall graphic.:
